About to upgrade audio
I am getting ready to order the prebuilt box from CustomBoxman that I have seen on here a few times, before I do is there any warnings/ideas I should consider first. I am going with (1) kicker L7 12, Phoenix Gold monoblock amp for sub and Phoenix Gold 4 channel for my components. Woo those 3.5's are going to scream. LOL I am keeping the stock Bose headunit w/ nav becuase 1 its so damn cool and 2 I spent way too much on that thing to junk it. Seriously I havent had too many aftermarket navs that are a whole lot better.
Thanks for any input I will get some pics up as soon as it starts to shape up. I have only had the car 3 weeks so I am a little slow getting started Last edited by JoeZ; 03-22-2010 at 10:32 PM. Reason: spelling |

Never heard of that company, but will probably be fine.Kicker subs like a lot of power, also hope your getting it ported as thats how kickers recommend you run them. But also will be quite loud.

He is the guy on this forum that asked for a donor car to come to his house so he could make a template for the 370Z. It is actually how I found this forum, I googled 370Z sub box and poof, up popped this site I have been hooked ever since.I am running the same amp I had in my prevoius car that was powering my L7 15 so I am assuming it will push a 12 very well. Thanks BigAudio, I have read many of your posts and I know that your a pro on the subject. I will post pics of the install as it begins

Basically the same box as the Zenclosures box which many of us own. I would go with them as they are a forum sponsor and Mike is a great guy. Watch my videos for a tour of his shop down here in Florida.

Cool JoeZ, good luck with your install. I think you will find it is a very well made box and the price is great.

Everything is in except the mids tweets and 3.5s They arrive Thursday so for now its the stock Bose. They are a little muddy, but what could I expect out of stock speakers. I have pics up in my albums. I have no idea how to insert a link to an album yet. I will figure it out eventually. Bass slams so far the homelink mirror shakes and rattles too much though, I have to fix that asap. Any ideas?

Everything is finally done!! It sounds awesome. I hope it doesnt cause a problem but I really want to shout out to the guy who did my install. I have been bugging him to get on here as a sponsor but he hasnt done it yet. We ran into a problem with the cleansweep not getting a clean signal and it took a few tries to get it right. You have to run the signal in before it hits the factory Bose amp. The Bose will not send a clean signal that the cleansweep can use. Anyway after a few tries and a little more cash we got it all figured out. Here is the part I am blown away about. Steve at Definitive Audio did the unthinkable...He refunded my money for the parts and labor for everything that didnt work. Who does that? I am sorry for plugging someone who isnt a sponsor but that is too classy to overlook.

Mike, there is a switch on the JL that allows it to accept low input or high input, So it can go before or after the factory amp just as long as the switch is in the right place and the calibration is done right and he is using the volume knob the JL came with and not the one on the head unit to control volume.

No other issues it sounds great. I have never had a sealed box in any car I have ever owned but I have to admit that this one works fine. It is a little undersized, kicker calls for 1.5cu' and I have 1.2ish so thats not ideal, if I were to go ported I would need a bigger enclosure. There is plenty of bass the way it is. The most often thing I am told after someone gets out is that it makes their nose itch inside from the vibration. Ha Ha mission accomplished |
