Default List of Good Aftermarket Nav unit/Alternative HU inside:

So far it seems that a far amount of people arent going with the OEM Nav. Base+Sport is the Most popular from what I can tell. Touring+Sport also with not so many OEM Navs.

So I thought a Thread with a list of Aftermarket Solutions would be a good idea to have going.

AVIC-Z3:
Pioneer USA - In-Dash Navigation

Quote:
The next generation of the ultimate in HDD navigation and multimedia is here. Pioneer's AVIC-Z3 is a double-DIN size, all-in-one system equipped with a 30GB hard disk drive (HDD) to deliver information, entertainment, and convenience on the road. Between the Z3's ultra-fast processing and the massive Tele Atlas database offering 12 million points of interest, getting where you need to be has never been so easy. And with a built-in HDD music library, DVD playback on the large 7-inch display, the Z3 ensures that you'll be entertained every minute along the way.

What's New
For 2008, the AVIC-Z3 replaces the AVIC-Z2 featuring all of the powerful capabilities of its predecessor, while adding some cool new enhancements, including:

*
Point Addressing
The Z3 gives door-to-door navigation made available via pinpoint address data for many addresses. Many destinations are now geocoded to a precise location, rather than to an address range, making routing more precise than ever before.
*
3D Landmark Icons and Updated POI Icons
The AVIC-Z3's graphic map interface features 3D landmark icons for airports, amusement parks, golf courses, stadiums, and zoos. These icons appear on the map en route, making them easy to identify.
*
Traffic Icons and Traffic Flow Lanes
An enhanced display of traffic conditions of a 1.0 ~ 2.5-mile map scales provides maximum navigation efficiency.
*
Bluetooth Voice Operation*
Dial any of your programmed entries on the internal hard disk phone book with a simple voice command.
*Requires use of ND-BT1 adapter
Eclipse AVN4430

The AVN4430 Fulfills Demands for Mobile Entertainment, Navigation
And Portability -- All In A Single Integrated Product

Quote:
(Torrance, CA) January 6, 2009 -- FUJITSU TEN LIMITED, manufacturer of leading automotive electronics, unveiled the ECLIPSE AVN4430 in-vehicle navigation system. This new product is the latest realization of the company’s AVN concept which revolves around the three core points of a perfect fit, comfort + awareness and integrated technology, in order to promote driving safety and comfort. Since 2004, ECLIPSE has put the AVN concept and products on the market, continuously got high evaluations. The AVN4430 also fills a unique position in the AVN product category as its navigation section is detachable for use elsewhere. The AVN concept was validated by the unit’s selection by the Consumer Electronics Association as an “Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering” honoree.

Meeting consumer demands for sophisticated audio and visual mobile entertainment in combination with portable navigation, the AVN4430 is a full-function, permanently mounted source head unit that does not compromise driver sight-lines or airbag operation as it is mounted in-dash for a perfect fit.

Entertainment is full-featured with CD and DVD as well as iPod® audio and video, with audio and video performance comparable to that of dedicated component units. The unit plays DVDs, CDs, CD-R/RWs, MP3 and WMA files. A motorized tilting front panel hides the slot for the discs while direct access to iPod audio and video is via cable. iPod functions are seen on the display. The AVN4430 also is equipped with a USB port.

This product is developed jointly with TomTom NV. The TomTom navigation device has a 4.3” WQVGA display with quick responding touch control for all functions. It will indicate source unit information when docked. It functions as a standalone portable navigation device when removed. Connected to a computer, it can take advantage of the rich content TomTom offers online such as Mapshare, navigation voices, POI edit and others. Hands-free calling and voice recognition are also included. Removing the navigation section deters unauthorized removal. A separate mounting kit is available for using just the navigation section in another vehicle.

Convenience and safer driving features include Bluetooth® wireless technology, steering wheel control (depends on make of car) and rear view camera capability.

The AVN4430 is scheduled to go on sale in January 2009 at a suggested MSRP of $850.00

Please explain how the pioneer unit integrates with the OEM sound system. Does it play prompts through the stock system? Is there a way to do that?

I am by no means a guru in In-Car Audio Setups

But here is a 10 minute Review with the unit mounted to the window.

Pioneer AVIC D3 FTW! Never had a problem with mine, and easy as could be to disconnect the parking break (This is illegal and I am not suggesting or endorsing this)

Here are the dimensions, but please note that this is not standard rectangular box, but an opening that is wider and higher at the front and then tapers down on all four sides to narrower dimensions at the back:

Front Width: 6 3/8'
Front Height: 3 3/4"

Rear Width: 5 13/16"
Rear Height: 3"

There is a 45 degree chamfer at the back of the box at its bottom the cut into the bottom dimension approx. 3/4". I hope this helps.

AVIC-F500BT Dimensions (W × H × D):
184.8mm × 98.1mm × 29.7mm
(7-1/4 in. × 3-7/8 in. × 1-1/8 in.)

Depending on how you want to mount it you might choose to go this route when they produce their mounts for the 370Z: ProClip

Take a look at the pictures at the forum's album, by zed-er, named: 370 Launch
It should not be long before an aftermarket replacement inset is released.

Pioneer announces Portable Navigation AVIC-F500BT with 5.8" screen and iPod
control
Contributed by Pioneer Electronics
Thursday, 31 January 2008
Last Updated Thursday, 31 January 2008
LAS VEGAS - CES 2008 – (January 6, 2008) – Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. today marked another
milestone in navigation history with the launch of its AVIC-F500BT, the first hybrid navigation system that brings the
power of an in-dash device with the convenience of a portable system. Designed to integrate with virtually any factory
audio system, the AVIC-F500BT provides the opportunity for consumers to add unparalleled navigation features and
extended entertainment capabilities without modifying existing car stereos. Furthermore, the AVIC-F500BT will offer
advanced voice technology for control of Apple iPod® music players and Bluetooth® enabled cellular phones.
"The AVIC-F500BT gives consumers the opportunity to merge their lifestyle products and habits into their cars,
regardless of the type of vehicle they drive," said Larry Rougas, vice president of marketing and product planning for the
mobile business group at Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "It aggregates compatible portable personal devices -- whether
it’s an iPod, an MP3 player or Bluetooth cell phone -- and links them all together without having to completely
change out the car’s entire factory audio system. And with VoiceBox technology, which goes beyond fixed voice
commands, the use of these devices in the car is more convenient."
Media Center
The AVIC-F500BT can operate as both a navigation device and as a media center for entertainment. Through an
auxiliary audio input in a factory audio system or using the available Pioneer installation module, the system becomes an
aggregator and "gateway" for personal audio and communication devices. Built-in speakers and a rechargeable battery
are also provided for use of the system while on the go.
The AVIC-F500BT significantly enhances the audio experience in the car with its ability to accept portable devices with a
Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection and/or music-filled SD memory cards. A slot for both are available in the body of
the unit which allows for quick connections of compatible MP3 or iPod music players as well as SD memory cards
containing MP3 and Windows Media Audio (WMA) music data. When a device is plugged in, the AVIC-F500BT
recognizes it as a source and controls it through its touch panel display and/or by voice control
Here are some pictures of the included equipment

hmmm i called 6th ave electronics around my area and they carry this unit. im really interested in purchasing it. its for sale $199.99 but theres a bundle pack that comes with the ipod connector ($29) and the amp ($48) all for $248. I asked the guy where would the amp go, and he said its a small amp that connects behind the stock radio. meaning they have to remove the radio and install the amp then put the radio back in place. that way, the turn by turn text to speech, bluetooth, and music goes through the car speakers. It sounds good to me but i dont know how to remove the factory radio unit. thats basically the only thing holding me back. any help would be greatly appreciated on how to remove the stock radio. thanks
