Help door speaker wires for new 6.5" Polks
OK Team
I moving right along on the stereo install in my 2010 370 Nismo Installing Polk Momo 6.5" in doors. I have a great idea on how you can use original speaker as a frame to clear the windows. I'm documenting with photos and will post soon. Going to install JL 4" in the rear grills. New Kenwood DNX 6160 going in the dash. Two Kenwood amps going under each seat (the 2010 kenwoods are 40% smaller than last years and should fit). Haven't decided what the woofer setup will be. My problem is this... How in the heck do we get new wire from the door to the car? I tapped into the original wire(yes, will be a little thin gauge for 10") but under the dash, the color of the wire does not seem the same. Help! Any info would be great! |

There are some awesome videos here that illustrate the entire radio install process. I think the doors are in video 3 or 4.

Thanks
Just watched em... learned a lot. Looks like door panels are coming back off so I can run 12 gauge all the way. Did not like the idea of tapping in to the stock speaker wire at all. Way to much power going to the speakers.
I'll let everyone know if I can cut an fit the 4" JL Audios in the back grills. Will use them most for the highs. My Polk Momo 6.5 fit great in the doors. Mounted the tweeters on the A Pillars for better direction to the seats. By the way, the Momo are great sounding woofer tweeters set for the price. Polk has changed what they make now but you can still get a set off ebay for 180.00 |

I would not even waste my time trying to fit 4 inch speakers in the back. If you want to put something there put what is suppose to be there or use the money that you were going to use for them towards something else.

Problem is...
In the 2010 Nismo, nothing is supposed to be in the back. I pulled the panels off and the space is tight. I'm gonna have to cut just to fit the 4" in there. I hear ya on the 4" point. Never thought I'd see the day when I would be thinking a 4". The JL gets good reviews and I'll keep it for highs and filter the lows.
You know something I don't on the new Nismo? Money is not the issue. |

here's my post with a pic of the door connector that you have to remove. it's not that hard once you figure it out.

Much Much Thanks
Snuck out of work today and pulled the door panels off...again...
The help, photos, and video for the plugs/connectors for the doors was a big time help. Thanks Thanks Thanks to all. Once you get going, the connectors in the door are a snap. I feel so much better knowing I have 14 gauge wire running from the amps to the doors. Heck ya! Now I can move on... Install the DNX6160, Polk sub amp under drivers seat, Kenwood 4 channel amp under apssenger seat, and I putting a single sub box in the back with and Xtant 10". Gonna come up with a way to tie it to the support bar. |

2009 vs 2010
So far, the videos on the doors, the connectors to the doors, all the panels in the car, and taking apart the dash have been perfect for my 2010 Nismo Z. Everything has been exactly as described in the videos in the forums.
I did take some good photos of how I used the frame of the door OEM speakers as a bracket for the new 6.5" woofers and tweeters. Trust me, if the Polk Momos fit, any 6.5" should. I think the top mount depth of the Momos is about 2.5" which is deep. Tonight I cut a hole in the existing speaker grills on the back wheel wells and managed to get a set of JL 4" speakers to fit rather nicely. I have photos of that to. Yes, 4" is not what I would prefer but anything bigger would not have fit right. Again, I plan on running the high pass filter to these and let the Xtant 10" woofer pick up the slack. The reviews on the JL Audio 4" model C2-400X are pretty good. JL is always as good as a speaker can be. Now the doors and the wheel wells are done, I can move quicker placing the amps and installing the deck. Should be done over the weekend (work during the weekdays and get as much done as I can before dark). Come Sunday, I'll post up what I have. Let me tell you this. I have never seen such a cheap pair of OEM speakers as what I saw when I removed them from the doors. I bet they cost Nissan $4.00 or less in a $40,000 dollar car. Total bull. |

Quick question
Guess I could dig around a bit but being lazy and tired, thought I'd just ask. Kenwood DNX 6160.
How do you bypass the parking break feature (the PRK SW wire)? Saw on the forums that it has been done but haven't found out how. |

Ground the lime green wire to any ground spot or if you want a switch put a switch in between the lime green wire and than run another wire from the switch to ground.

All right... One more question and I owe you a case of beer
Thanks for the bypass DVD info with the lime wire being grounded.
Gonna install three switches in the center glove box. One for blue trigger wire for sub amp in case I need to un-hook the sub and pull it out. Never know if you need some cargo space. Flip the switch and amp does not power up. One for the lime green wire for the DVD player safety bypass One for red neons under the seats. Did I mention my 2010 Nismo is red? Now, stopped and grabbed the back up camera (kenwood). Wasn't gonna mess with the camera but figured I should while the deck is still in the hand rather than the dash. So...Uno Mas... Which wire in the Z is the reverse wire? Answer this Mr Audio BugAudioFanat I have a case of Heineken coming your way. Not kidding |
