Audio Control EQX installed
I just wired in my EQX today and it made a big difference. The EQX is a pre-amp/line driver plus a 13 band parametric EQ. My Alpine IVA 505 only has 2 volt pre-outs so the EQS raises the pre-out voltage to 9.5 volts rms. I set my gains just a hair above fully closed and its very loud.
On the subwoofer side I was able to tame down the midbass peaks from my sub so now its very smooth and deep. On the fronts was were it really shined. I have much more midbass from my fronts so I hardly need to fad my sub. The focal K2P's really have a lot of punch and even with my sub off I can feel the bass in my chest. With all this extra juice going into the amp, my amp doesent have to work very hard and I have no noise or hiss at all. It fit perfectly next to my amp. I highly recommend this tool AudioControl EQS Trunk-mount 6-channel equalizer and line driver at Crutchfield Signature

I wired in such a way that when I want to tune it I can pull it out and put it on my lap from the drivers seat and tune it. I have pretty long rca;s and power wire.
Its an easy way to flatten out your in-car response. Basically it will take a good sounding system and make it great sounding system! It really helped tame down that 13" beast I have under the rear floor.

How long did it take you to tune to your listening preference? I believe they have a control module so one can adjust the EQ levels without touching the actual unit.

This unit is strictly manual. They have the electronic versions but I feel they are too complicated. I prefer the simplicity of manual adjustments. It took me maybe 20 to 30 minutes to tune my car from the drivers seat.
I now love my audio system after installing this EQ.

The 6-channel EQX was exactly what I needed. I am using only the Subwoofer and Front speaker channels on the EQX as my rear speakers are running off of the head unit amplifier. EQs like this are an advanced piece of equipment used to flatten the audio in-car response, In other words to reduce unwanted frequencies and boost desired frequencies to get a very balanced sound. I have found the smaller the cabin of the car the more an EQ can make a difference. Now my next move is to tame down a few rattles from my custom floor. I have to vent the floor slightly to let my subwoofer breath a little better. The subwoofer vent from my enlosure is nearly blocked. I still have the set of Focal K2P speakers but I have a plan to use them. I am considering buying my wife a new or a gently used Maxima and I might put them in her new Max along with my spare Alpine 4 channel amp. I also have a Focal Access 15" sub brand new in the box that I want to play with too. I might try an infinite baffle setup using the trunk as an enclosure.

Yes, otherwise its pretty much pointless. These EQs are designed for multi-channel amps or multiple amplifier systems. The high voltage balanced rca outputs are really icing on the cake but you have to have something to plug it into to use that feature.
I suppose if the head unit has rca line level inputs you could loop the EQ into the system thus using it as your pre-amp, but without the amp it wouldn't be worthwhile to mess with.
