Sub recommendations

Hi, I currently have a Bose system in the car and the bass is alright but I’m thinking about upgrading. I don’t know a whole lot about car audio so I was wondering if some people here could make maybe a list of stuff I’m going to need. What I want to do is just add a single 12” sub. So after reading a couple previous threads it looks like I’m going to need a new HU, Amp, enclosure, and sub. Is there anything else? Also does anyone have some good recommendations for the HU, amp, and sub. I’d like this to be relatively cheap I don’t need best of the best but some middle of the road best bang for your buck set up would work for me.

If you're going to install a new hu and want to do an easy, space saving and great sounding sub then read this thread.

I saw this but idk, how does this compare to an actual 12” in an enclosure

If you were pulling the entire crappy bose system out and upgrading the wiring, the speakers and new amp(s) then I could see where an enclosure with a 12" sub would be more beneficial but since it sounds like you're keeping the rest of the bose system minus the hu, then it is a perfect alternative. I don't know anyone that has installed this sub and had any complaints about it. It works great.

For $300 I just don’t know how much better it would be than stock. Is there much of a difference?

Night and day difference. I wouldn't recommend it otherwise. I'm not here to try to sell you one, I'm just giving you my experience with it.

Here's what another poster from my original thread had to say about it, but of course you probably read it.

"Sub will rattle the rear view mirror easily.. all the Bass I need, although I’m not one to play it so you hear me 2 blocks over. That being said, I still need to ‘feel’ the bass."

Do a HU first it REALLY wakes up the OE Bose system. You can always build from there since you still need it anyway if it's still not enough. Another thing I noticed is streaming quality is much less powerful than burning a good ole CD.

Yea I ended up buying a Pioneer DMH-2660NEX as I'm tired of the aux cord
