Using only the Woofers from a Component Set
Hey guys,
I have a base model 2020. Already upgraded myself with just a double din DVD navigation unit using all the proper harnesses and ASWC-1 without cutting any factory wiring Now for the speakers, I want to start (and hopefully end) with just the door speakers. I know I can get a coaxial set. Problem with that is I would have two sets of tweeters. But what about instead of buying a coaxial set, buying a component set and only using the woofers from the set while keeping the included tweeters and crossovers unused in the packaging? This would keep the factory tweeters with their built in crossover in service for now. Will this work? I really do not feel like running new wiring right now on my brand new car. I want to keep things as simple and as 'factory' as possible. I do not want a separate amp either. I am really just looking at improving the sound to match what would come on a higher trim level car (I know, Bose, not that high of a bar, but that is really all I am looking to achieve). Will the woofers get the full frequencies including the highs? But if that's the case, are not the stock woofers that are in there right now also getting the full frequencies including the highs? In the future I could tackle the tweeters and install the crossover as a separate project IF I really felt the need for it. Last edited by viiv; 05-12-2020 at 05:28 AM. |

Wiring diagrams, wire colors, harness routing, etc are in the FSM. Link in my sig.
Not sure where you'd find out what kind of signal the woofer is getting. I'd just hook a speaker to the output and see if there's any treble or not.

You're getting coaxial and component speakers switched.
Coaxial will have the tweeter built into the woofer. A component set will have it separate. I recommend doing it right the first time buying a component set and installing the tweeter in the dash. Otherwise you'll have to disconnect the stock tweeter and you look clarity and sound imaging.
