The reason for the multi-pin connectors is cost, not reliability nor being inherently "right". If it were cheaper to splice, solder, crimp, or whatever, the car makers would be doing it.
Once again, why? Why touch the factory harness when
you can leave it untouched with a micro bypass?

A bypass would be the best (the easiest, at the very least) solution in many situations ... but not all situations.
