Rec. compact 2 channel amp
Hello all,
It's been a long time since I have posted. My cheap amp is dying and I need a replacement. I'm looking for a compact amp that fits in the long foam place behind the aluminum bar. I have 2 sets of Focals. I only remember what one of the sets are. and can't remember what the other set model is. I run the 2 door speakers on one channel and the other set on the second channel. Any recommendations on a compact 2 channel amp? I have a set of these and and I don't know what my other set is. Lets just say I have 2 sets of these and rec. me a amp. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-F4vgkE...SABEgJnrPD_BwE YzGyz |

Is there any reason you've decided not to run a 4-channel amp?
Also, I'm trying to figure out how you have this setup... if you have the two door speakers on one channel, are they only playing on the left or the right channel, or are all speakers playing in stereo but just separated by frequency due to the crossover... how is/was your old amp setup? Additionally, if you have 2x sets of components, that would be 8x speakers (4x tweeters/4x mids)... what are the other 4x speakers doing (and where are they mounted)? ...or do you have a component set in the front (doors/tweeters) and a coaxial set in the body panels next to the driver/passenger headrests, with the amp powering the components and the headunit powering the coaxials? (I'm just throwing out scenarios at this point) |

The long foam place behind the aluminum bar... I'm really not sure what you mean. Maybe you could give us dimensions?
Just offhand for a good 4-channel amp, good quality, something like a Zapco ST-4XII is a good choice. Lots of options out there, but without knowing the actual dimensions and your budget, it's tough. The ST-105D.BT has more power and adds a sub channel (250-380W for sub) for just a few bucks more. Plenty of higher-power budget amps from the Korean manufacturers, but they will be larger. Honestly, I think we need more info to really help... I'm just not envisioning where you're talking about putting it. |

I have my 2 front speakers in parallel going into 1 channel (basically the red aux) and then the two rear in parallel into the other (white). I did this so that I could control the gain on each channel so that I could balance the volume form front to the back. I have a second amp for my sub.
The reason why I didn't go 4 channel is because I only ran 2 aux sets out of my HeadUnit; one for the components and one for the sub. It was just easier that way and I didn't need to be able to control each speaker at each corner individually. Here is a pic of the area I'm talking about. It's not my car nor setup but it shows the location. WTB: 370z Trunk Foam YzGyz |

Ok, I see where you're talking about. I've got a Zapco DC750.2 in that spot, which is 23" x 7.5", so you've got room for a pretty good amp there. From the sounds of what you have right now, you can fade front to rear, but you have mono sound, no L/R. That would drive me nuts, but to each his own, right? I don't see a need for rear speakers, especially in this tiny car, I think you're much better off having a properly set up front stage.
You didn't mention a pricerange. The Soundqubed S4-100 is 100x4 and is less than 8"x 8", this should fit. $169. The Skar SK-M400 is 100x4 and is 7.9in x 4.6in. $129. The Skar SK-M900 is 55x4 and 300x1 (450x1 @ 2ohms) for sub and components. 12.4 in x 4.6 in and $150. Skar has a ton of other amps that will fit in that space, too, go check 'em out. www.skaraudio.com I'm sure there are tons more out there, some higher end, but these two budget brands actually do make good power in a small package at a very, very good price. Honestly, if I end up replacing my Zapcos, if I don't go with another Zap, I'll probably do one of these, or Wolfram, but the Wolfram doesn't fit in that space, I think it's too wide. The Zapco ST105.D.BT will fit there, too. Also has a sub channel. The Zapco ST-4XII is 50x4 and $199 and will fit, also. The Zapco ST-104D.BT is 100x4 and $299, but is TINY. Those are some options. |

Yup, I have front to back fade. I had just front stage for a while but didn't like it do i put in a second set. I like this a lot better. I forgot to mention that the rear speakers share some of the amp space (at least the magnets do). My sub is a 12 alpine r shallow in a custom box I made. Iirc it's 1000w rms at 4 ohms. That's why I got a separate amp. I was looking at the Zaps myself. Zaps are solid but I was just looking for other options and choices. My price range is under $200 shipped to my door.

Rockford makes a lot of good 2 channel amps, JL's amp is awesome and under rated power rating.

Yes but he said he had 2 sets of speakers (one set of components with the second set possibly components)... which is why I was asking where the other set was housed, how it was wired up and why he didn't look into a 4ch.

Is the 2nd set of RCAs that is going to the sub a fullrange, or a sub-only set? Some of these amps have an RCA out, so you could run both sets into the 4-channel amp, maintain both stereo AND F/R fade from the deck, and run the RCA outputs from the 4-channel amp into the sub amp. That's a possibility.
If not, you could use 2-channel RCAs into the 4-channel to run all sets of speakers. |
