3M Automotive Mounting Tape
Has anyone ever used this stuff to install door speakers in place of screws? I'm thinking if I basically use it as a gasket, it will probably negate the need for screws altogether.
god strong stuff indeed... but no replacement for mechanical fasteners. put the screws in.
Absolutely. Over time, with heat and environmental degradation, I think it will pull loose. What is the problem with using screws, if you don't mind my asking?
See if you can find any specs for how much weight it can hold. The tape is designed for long-term use for interior/exterior emblems and other light-weight parts so it may not have much load-bearing capacity.

I just used a roll of 3M #3614 Heavy duty for some vent visors on my crosstrek. Ridiculously strong tape, and I have no doubt it would hold a speaker in place. How long is the question. weather, along with constant vigorous vibration may not be too kind to it.
Use screws/ bolts like everyone else. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. |
It'd work great if you never drove or played music loudly.
Why use it as s gasket when the one that comes with the speakers work. Plus, it won't be as secure as a legit fastener like the screw.
Or using dynamat or roadkill and not have to worry about any of it
