head unit install help

I have a 2013 Bose Non-Nav

I got a new Head Unit (pumpkin) 7"
I purchased a metra 70-7553. The head unit doesn't power up.. i can put the old system back in and it works.

I read some posts about the pin layout changing on a 2013. Not sure if that true with the 7553.

Any ideas on what could cause this?

could a bad ground cause this?

There are a few audio nuts on here that will probably be able to help you out. At least one of them will probably chime in within 24 hours.

Have you got a DMM? Check your power wire to make sure you're getting power to the new unit. I'm not sure how you have it wired up, so it's almost impossible to tell. A LACK of ground might cause it not to power up, but a poor ground... eh...

Take your new unit, tie the +12V and ignition wire to your battery's positive and ground the negative and see if you get it to power on. You don't need anything else actually hooked up for it to power up - as far as I know, I don't know what a pumpkin is, unless it's some oddball unit. <edit> Ok, I looked into this and figured it out, one of those Android units. That's ok, shouldn't change much. </e>

But what you're describing to me makes me wonder if you didn't get a bad unit.

If you are right and the 13+ units have a different wiring scheme, then you just tap into a continuous power and a switched (accessory or ignition) power. Hooking it up directly to the battery (with a fuse, of course) will simulate this.

Okay I got the unit up and running. Thanks guys. The only issue I have now is that the check engine light came on and stays on.

edit: it was from disconnecting the battery a bunch, cleared the code. All is good so far : )

So now you've got me looking into some Android units for my Tahoe - not the Pumpkin one you have, as I need either multiple sets of pre-outs or there is a single unit I can find with a digital coax output, that would work.

But I'm intrigued by how far these units have come in the last 4-5 years since I checked into them last. I think I could replace my faltering 8100-NEX for a fairly inexpensive price and actually gain functionality. We'll see.

I just bought this 10.1" Joying unit to put in my Tahoe. It's got an SPDIF output which will be really nice, to run to my miniDSP C-DSP 6x8 processor. If this works out as well as I think it might, I'll probably get the same unit to put in my Z. I measured it yesterday with my 10.1" tablet to see how it would fit and it'll work well, I think. I won't be able to open the dash pocket with the screen on, but it is easily detachable to be able to get into the pocket if I need to. I think it'll work out pretty well! There look to be some nice units out there, but the Joying is the only one that has the digital output so far, so that made the biggest part of the decision for me.
