First to buy factory Nissan Remote Start for 370Z!!

Hey guys, I took the plunge and bought the answer-back model from japanparts.com. The display and all buttons are in English, but the directions are in Japanese.

There are many pictures giving the gist of the install, so I'm hoping my local professional installer can figure it out. If so, I'll ask him to give me pics to post for anyone else interested in doing this.

If my installer can't figure it out, is anyone here fluent in Japanese? :rofl2::icon14::ugh2:

Thanks!

nogoodname 01-07-2010 11:53 PM

hope it works out !!! many have seen this starter but no one bought it....lol

Cjanik 01-08-2010 01:30 AM

does it come with just the remote, or the starter "brain" as well? (I.E. a unit that hooks up to the ECU or something?)

Installation PDFs

Hey guys, can't find anyone willing to do the install soon without directions in English. One shop will give it a try, but I'll have to wait until February as they are all booked up. None of the Nissan dealerships in my area will try the install without English instructions.

So, I have created PDF files of the installation, programming, and user guides for the system. From looking at the diagrams, it seems ALMOST plug and play, and similar (but not VERY similar) to installing the illuminated kick plates (which I've done myself).

Anyways, I've gone to freelancing websites to get quotes on translating these PDFs, and I'll let you know how it goes.

If any of you know someone who reads Japanese and can translate these into English for CHEAP, pm me your email address. I'm also willing to compensate them with free editing or copy editing services.

Vendors/installers, I am located in Omaha, NE, but will drive anywhere east of my location for you to install the system for your usual remote start install price, and you will be the first in the country to have installed the system and can market yourself as the only shop installing fully compatible OEM remote start systems for Nissans with intelligent keys. PM me your info and location if you are open to this arrangement...I'm definitely up for a road trip!

Thanks!

can u just post the instructions anyways to give us an idea of what your facing?

Update!

UPDATE!

I have attempted to tackle the problem of translating the guides from Japanese to English. I contacted a number of professional language translation companies, all of whom gave me estimates around $5000. Yes, you read that correctly! Luckily, I found out about freelancer.com, and have found a guy in India (anyone read the book about the 4-hour work week?) who is translating the three guides for $100!! Yes, you read that correctly too! He has already translated the user guide for the end user post-installation, and he did a great job...not perfect, but easily good enough for anyone to understand everything written. I am still waiting for him to translate the installation and programming guides, and will post another update when I get it.

Random facts I've learned from the translated guide so far:

1) You can selectively activate the rear defroster upon remote start.
2) You can operate the trunk.
3) The remote has a key lock function to avoid accidentally pressing buttons on the remote.
4) The remote must be taken with all existing keys to be programmed at the dealer. What I don't yet know is whether the remote acts as the key, or whether the key must also be with me to operate the car...

When looking through the contents of the system, there is one large harness, one small harness, the transmitter antenna, and a box that probably plugs into the harness plug points. The plug/harness installation locations seem to be the same as for the illuminated kickplates, so I'm considering installing the system myself after perusing the fully translated documents, if they are clear enough. The only part that may be hard for me to install is a hood sensor that detects when the hood is opened. Perhaps I can compress the sensor and leave it in the cabin...any ideas?

Anyways, I'll provide more updates as I receive the translated files...

g96818, I don't know how to post the files as they are too large for the site requirements...sorry.

Thanks for the support, everyone!

these double posts are running rampant :shakes head:

UPDATE:

Had the second of three documents, troubleshooting/setup guide, translated. Now waiting for the final, and most important guide, the installation guide.

When I get it I'll let you all know.

On another note, I took my new "Z" logo key and the starter remote to the dealership for reprogramming (along with my other keys) and was told the starter remote couldn't be programmed. I have a bad feeling that it does need programming and maybe there's some difference between Japanese and US I-key programming systems? Perhaps the service guy didn't even try and gave me a lame excuse. Anyways, once the system is installed I'll know for sure.

Thanks.

P.S.: Thanks for the image, vipor. I'll try to use it when I get to the point of installation (hopefully soon)...

CBRich 01-15-2010 05:48 AM

I'm not at home right now but I'm wondering if the service manual has a guide for syncing everything.

YellowStrider 01-16-2010 11:44 PM

Skimmed past this thread by chance. Still need a translator?

Just bought the Viper alarm which is controled from your Iphone. I was very impressed at all it does. It uses the At&T wireless signal to control unit so you can lock/unlock, start, see intutions to the car, and many other things from wherever you are. I get my car back later this afternoon and I will leet you know how it all works.

that's cool, hope your phone doesn't die or break or get stolen.

vipor 01-17-2010 05:34 PM

met a guy at a Z meet with the iPhone control on his 350Z. he seemed to like it a lot.

rhood 01-17-2010 08:14 PM

Just got the car back and WOW! This thing does everything. It comes with a remote(very detailed) remote. But the cool part is that the iphone does it all as well. You can lock/unlock, start, trunk, rear defroster, etc. Definitely worth the money

Snakes709 01-17-2010 09:16 PM

Kinda off topic but whats the difference between this remote starter and the one that comes with the CompuStar alarm? I just bought the CompuStar Alarm/Remote starter... a local member is telling me the dealership tried and failed at installing the remote starter, something about its not compatable...he first told me u need a wiring harness (which my friend at his shop has for me) I seen the program and the diagrams to install the parts so iiunno why there would be issues. Any input?

it doesn't alert you if someone tampers with the car. when the Viper/Iphone app can do this i will be first in line.

UPDATE:

Installation guide is now translated! Still debating whether to try this myself or take this to an installer, leaning toward the installer route, although my local installer will make me wait a few weeks.

Any pro installer on the forum within a few hundred miles of Omaha, NE? PM me with your install charge...

Thanks

vipor 01-20-2010 08:45 AM

scan the book in plz?

marcussoori 01-20-2010 11:25 AM

g96818, thanks for the RapidShare idea!

Here are the files, everyone! I'd appreciate someone's assistance with installing this system, and I hope these files help put you at ease regarding the Nissan system from JapanParts. I must say, the files aren't perfectly translated grammar-wise, and even some words are not translated properly (for example, "Rimocon" is remote starter remote and "Differential" is rear defroster). But for $100, I got a great deal, and any pro installer will easily be able to use these files. I hope you all agree...

Again, please PM me if you could be of help with installing this system on my car.

And if you think this is worthy of rep, I'd appreciate it (click the white icon under profile pics to give members rep)!

Hey Guys,
I just read the translated manual and i get the impression that the engine will stop when the door is opened (if the engine was started with the remote starter). Is that what you expect or do you think i got it wrong?

The Honda factory remote start works the same way, so that wouldn't be completely surprising.

semtex 01-22-2010 01:50 PM

So . . you remote start your car, go open the door to get in, the motor shuts off and you have to start it up again? I guess that sorta makes sense from an anti-theft perspective. Bit of a PITA though.

roplusbee 01-22-2010 02:02 PM

I can see the security standpoint, but it would be very inconvenient to start your car with the remote start, open the door, and then have to restart the car after getting in.
