2009 - 370Z - audio problem

I have attempted to locate a post with the same issue however I was unable to locate it.

So here we go, I just took delivery on a 2009 370Z with the sport package. The stock stereo with no brand name on it is horrific. It has too much static noise and when coupled with the loud road noise, it is intolerable. The music playing can't even be identified due to the distortion.

I noticed in one of the audio posts "Dynamat" was being installed pretty much every where. Is this to stop some of the road noise or is it to help in the audio quality?

I posted in the "road noise" post however I have not received any new info as to good fixes.

Has anyone else had the same problems?

Don't get me wrong, I love the car, just not the excessive noise and poor audio issues.

I agree the audio doesn't sound very good. It doesn't sound too bad when the car isn't moving. I usually drive with the stereo off so no big deal to me.

I don't recall gearing static noises as you explained it on my factory HU. Just get an aftermarket doubledin.

Road noise comes with any sports car.
The static noise might be some faulty wiring or a bad headunit. Have you tested all inputs? FM/AM/AUX/CD
If they all sound bad then it might be wiring or speakers.

Teh static might be from a bad antenna booster or something else. Even I know of no static in the stock radio. Dynamat will help omit road noise and quite the interior down. If you are having a problem with your stock radio take it to the dealer and let them look it over. If they say everything is fine ask them to explain the noise. Than after whatever is not working right is fixed go buy a new aftermarket head unit. The only reason I say do it in those steps is if there is something wrong other than the head unit a new head unit will not fix the problem.

Are you guys saying that you have a stereo that is clear and if so, did you change the stock speakers and install sound blocking material?

Now I'm really going to sound stupid, what is a head unit???

Head unit is just the term for the part of the stereo system in the dash with the lights, knobs, and buttons on it. You need to be more specific about your problem I think. The stock stereo isn't the best, but it shouldn't sound "staticy" especially at low volume.

Dynamat is just crap you put behind the interior panels to block noise from outside like wind noise, exhaust noise, tires rolling on the road etc. It doesn't have anything to do with your stereo, but effectively makes it sound better by removing background noise.

Do you have this problem only with the radio, or is it on CD's as well?

Is it there when the car is not running?

This is the kind of information people would need to have any chance of figuring out what you are talking about, but it sounds like you should just take it to the dealership and get it checked out.

Many thanks guys, I had heard that other people had the same complaints about the stock system. Just checking to see it that was true before I take it back to the dealer.

As I said if it a problem with the head unit itself OR something else it does not matter I would take it to the dealer to get everything checked out.

I'm going to take it in next week to have the dealer look at it. I'm just wondering if that would be a good time to line the interior, doors and back trunk area.
I have noticed that several brands of sound proofing are being used. Is there one that stands out? Weight, sound barrier, ease of application and of course the price>????

Dynamat
Damplifier Pro
Ensolite Closed cell foam
B-Quiet liner

I do not think a dealer is going to install dynamat in a car. I would recommend doing it yourself as you know were to put it and were the noise is coming from. I recommend dynamat simply because I have been using it and had no problems.

I used Dynamat Extreme in my 370. The whole back hatch area and doors. This is NOT a sound proofer. It is a sound deadener which deadens vibrations. Thus making your audio sound better.

You can add stuff over the Dynamat for extra sound proofing.

Having the Dynamat has made my car quieter I believe and I would recommend it to anyone who is upgrading their audio and play it loud in which interior panels could vibrate.

The liberal use of sound deadning like Dynamat, Rammatt, Second Skin plus a layer of ensolite acoustic foam over the top of the sound deadning will make a dramatic improvement in reducing road noise. Plus if you modify your car like many of us do with performance exhaust, intake, ect. The sound deadning will reduce or eliminate any drone from inside the cabin.

Now the benifits of sound deadning for audio are of course the obvious lowering the noise floor. Speakers are mounted to the metal in your doors and sound deadning will help by reducing if not eliminating resonance. Metal doors are not idea for speaker enclosures by any means so sound deading really helps reduce any resonance. Resonance will dramatically reduce bass performance and color midrange.
