Is it possible to upgrade Nismo tech nav screen?
Hey guys! I just traded in my 2013 sport Z for a 2016 Nismo tech with only 11k miles on it. I love it and all the goodies it’s packed with, except for the damn Navi system... the screen quality is horrendous. Is it possible to get a upgrade the unit to a fully functional unit that has apple/carplay and still show the gps map as well? Sorry if this is a repeat thread, I can’t find anything that answers what I’m looking for.

Please search. the easy answer is no unless you want to chop your harnesses off and buy used parts from a factory base setup to install in yours. Then it would be possible. I HATE my G37 setup which is the same thing you have. I grabbed a wirelinq cable to give me some features but I'm missing so many goodies.

what bigaudiofan said... but I'm going to try anyway, I have bought all of the other goodies, and will try this soon. I'm going to document the whole exercise and see if I can make it work...... still hoping i can find a local pro that will work with me, or do it for me in a day. BigAudioFan is my paid consultant backup and I hope i dont need him (but will happily pay if I do) going to be a weird experience chopping up a perfectly good new car... probably nuts, but oh well :)

I'm in the same boat and equally frustrated. What's even worse is that I came from a 40th AE where I developed a tablet mounting bezel and Nexus-7 kit which met all my needs for track data logging and everything else; but I can't use it in my 2016 Nismo.
In my quest, I did buy the Bose HU, the climate control module, and connectors from a 2014 Nismo part-out thinking I could swap it out and then install my cubby tablet. However, I abandoned it when I discovered I would have to hack up my harness which I'm just not going to do. If you need parts, drop me a PM. And best of luck, cause there's a long line of people wanting to do the same! |
Thanks!
here is what I have so far: 1. nismo stitched (red) non-nav cubby with the door. 2. Scosche lower half double din kit with holes for the 3 knobs on non-nav 3. 3 knobs control system from non-nav 4. hvac non-nav amp (this was a pain to find) 5. the looks the same, but isn't plug for #4 need still: 1. iDatalink maestro RR (for steering wheel control, and remapping for the google android button) jsut found a wire diagram for this, so more confident I can make it work. will probably order this, this weekend. 2. Kenwood DDX-9905s (beast of a head unit, 2 din, wireless Android auto), i want buy this last, so that I can return if i just can't make ti work, so I am assembling everything before any cuts so I can be inside the 30 day window of return (cruthfield most likely) 3. Guts to do this all.... apparently the hardest part is getting the harness in the current car, and splicing in the other wires and controls. My plan is to do as little splicing as possible and save all of the old (new) parts so fi I want to roll back to nav/bose I can. Bigaudiofant has agreed to be paid support, but i might convince a lot installer to take it on now that i have all of the parts... I am going to video the whole thing with a go pro, and also take pics along the way, just in case it really works, then I can show the world (all 500 of us nismo owners) that it is possible. Still might just down grade it to non-nav, and then use brainiac attachment with a tablet https://workshoptwelve.com/nissan-370z/ so many choices once i'm downgraded... |

That's the only thing holding me back from doing a "nav downgrade", in Australia we only get one internal trim of Z with everything (including Nav..) |
I have to imagine that the only true answer to this PITA of a dinosaur system is to get into the code running the navi and simply chop our the aux movement bits.. then just do something like this
