Tesla Style head unit is being looked into...

Hey folks....

I posted in here a while ago concerning replacing the stock radio and head unit in my 2015z with a tesla style unit. After some research and looking through other threads on here, I saw where some folks came pretty close to doing it...but no success.

So I turned to the wizard (Google) and asked the same question...
"Is there a tesla style head unit for a 370z?" and after some research...

I found a company in Arizona that makes these style head units for OTHER vehicles...seems like the Mustang and Ford trucks are big in their product catalog...but no 370z's.

So I reached out to the owners' of the store and told them that if they came out with a Tesla Style unit for the 370z, it would be well received and they stand a chance of selling a few ( a lot) of these things.

They responded and asked for some info of my vehicle, model, make, pictures, etc... and that they would look into developing a product for us 370z owners. :)

So now I am texting with the guy and he is asking me...

"Do you think it would be possible to "pre-order the unit for the 370z? If so, it would make our research investment an easier business decision to make."

Now I am not one that wishes to PAY for someone else's "research" (which means "play around with it, until I get something working") and then buy a half baked solution for my ride. So I am going to vote NO on the "pay before I play" idea...

However, I thought if I could poll this forum and just simply ask the question...

"If a company was to come out with an off-the-shelf Tesla style head unit
that is complete plug and play package for the 370z, would you buy it and if so, what would you be willing to pay? $500.00, $700.00, $1000.00, etc..."

The company I am speaking of is:

phoenixandroidradios and you can find them on the web at the same name. ;)

My thinking is, if I can show these folks that there is some genuine interest from this group and a possible customer base out there, they might go ahead and bring it to market.

Finally, I will just go ahead and tell you now... YES I do have an ulterior motive with this which is... I REALLY want a Tesla Style unit for my ride and I think if I can show them enough interest, they may go ahead a build one and then I can simply buy from them and install ;)

What do you think? Do you think this is a good idea and if so, what are your answers to the above questions?

Also...Mr. or Mrs. Moderator, do you think this post warrants to be made "sticky" at the top? Or maybe turned into a "poll question" and posted elsewhere in this forum...or both? ;)

Anyway, thanks all!

My questions would be, what is the upgrade ability of the screen? What is the quality of the DAC? What version of android would they start with? What is the system's expand ability like? These are the questions I ask before I can put a price on investments like this.

Also please no offense but with only 9 posts it's something that raises an eyebrow now a days. How would we know were the investment is going?

I would be interested as well. But as stated above, I would like to know the quality of the DAC. And how expandable it is. Would it have RCA outs, HDMI, USB, etc. RCA voltage if they have them. This is some basic information anybody looking to run a full aftermarket system would need to know. It may make or break someone who is looking to run a DSP. I know it would for me.

4.4 with 1-2gb memory.

Their hardware is about 5 years old. I have a similar system and it's slow to startup. Give it about 5min to startup and it's good, and the 2gb memory is problematic too.

These appear to be rebadged chinese android stereos. Go on amazon or ebay and search for "tesla style car stereo" and you will find all of this stuff.

Hi Big.... I completely understand the reservations with concerns to my "9 posts..." But please understand...I am not affiliated with PhoenixAndroid at all. I am just a regular schmoe off the street...trying to find a Tesla style head unit for my ride.

I also understand needing to know the hardware and specs of the units. I am an IT Consultant and I certainly understand needing to know the specs of hardware...however, with myself not being a part of the company plus, I am just a novice when it comes to these units and their configs... I couldn't begin to answer your questions.

I was just wanting to poll this experienced group of 370z owners and see if this made sense. If it did...I was going to try and push the company to make them.

You see...I am not interested in me researching, buying all the parts, building, modifying, and installing the unit....I am trying to find a turn-key solution. Quite frankly, I am looking to buy a well made product, that works good and sounds good and has the backing of this group, which is complete off the shelf and ready to be installed....and then have it installed by a professional.

Because I am not that handy or smart about these units, I fear, I would mess something up and mess up my ride.

I hope all this makes sense.

Anyway, just wanting to see what you guys think.

Thanks for all your advice!
Zed
