This turned out great! I've been really considering learning how to work with fiberglass, for exactly the same reasons you mentioned (either doing a sub or doing an ipad install for the dash).
Well done and I know you hate working with fiberglass but watch out you might just be good at it. KBC

Doing something like an iPad install or a gauge pod is actually pretty fun and easy... the part that sucks is doing something larger like a sub box because: 1) You gotta be disciplined in masking to make sure you don't make a mess in your car 2) Inevitable you have to stuff your whole self into the hatch or some other awkward space for a couple of hours to make the mold 3) There is a large surface area to sand, so prepare for itchyness. Other than that, its easy peasy =) I say go for it! It's pretty easy to learn.

Bummer... the contact cement didn't hold and the really stretched areas around the edges wrinkled up on me... I guess I will have to pull it all off and start over using the stronger brush-on stuff instead of the aerosolized stuff.

If your'e using contact cement, you have to let it fully gas out before you put your vinyl on it. Cover the wood fully with the cement, let it dry for about a day. Then you reactivate with a heat gun and then apply your vinyl. Vinyl doesn't really breathe as well as say carpet or tweed, so as it dries, the gasses that are trying to escape cause the vinyl to lift.

If anyone is interested, I am planning to sell this amp/sub/enclosure setup. I love the way it sounds... but I have unfortunately become hearing impaired over the last year and never really listen to music while driving anymore.
Enclosure still needs to be re-vinyled, but other than that its been great.

Thanks JAR. It's a bummer for sure, but at least my car will be a few pounds lighter.
