10w0 Question
Finally got the stereo installed.
Just a quick question, I have the JL Audio 10w0's in the sealed back firing zenclosure box like this: And I'm using this amp, running at 2ohms: Punch 300 Watt Full-Range Mono Amplifier | Rockford Fosgate ® I think I'm going to stick with this setup for a while, but I'm wondering how I can get even deeper bass? Do I change the amp or the subs or both? It's not bad, but I just think there is some room for improvement. The issue I have is that these were $100 each, and the next step is $240 each for the 10w3's. Just looking from a budgetary standpoint what would be the next best move. By the way: Hertz HSK 165's Bi Amped on the P600 sound AMAZING!!! even without any dsp added. |

sub enclosure is .70, recommended is .65 for 10w0. sub displacement gets you near perfect... add 1/2 lb of polyfill to each side. this will get your volume slightly larger (hence deeper bass)
Also, your only seeing 150w at each speaker. they are rated at 300. you need at least a 600 watt @ 2 ohm amp. These subs aren't living up to their potential on that amp.....

Uh oh... I'm salivating over this, because I can then upgrade subs later on, just need to have the mounting board redone:
Power 1,500 Watt Class-bd Constant Power Amplifier | Rockford Fosgate ® 3 10's are in my future, cheaper than going forced induction, and not like we can go fast here in Oregon with all the prius/subaru outback drivers, but you know what: They actually WILL finally hit the gas when the light turns green after you bass them out. So call it "therapy" if you will. I hate to be that guy, but everyone is checked out behind the wheel until they are administered a little bass, then all of a sudden they are top fuel champs Sorry, I'm done playing nice. I tried for 4 years. |

Rookie Error:
Source Level Adjustment! So apparently the Pioneer I have simply puts out less juice when connected to pandora from my iphone. For some reason this just never occurred to me, so I finally burned a few audio files at higher bit rates to a SanDisk USB drive, then plugged that sucker in, and it's like BAM, here's like DOUBLE the volume! So this has cured a lot of but not all of the bass shortcomings. Basically I need to bump up the source level on certain inputs like when using pandora/iphone. I now have the AWESOME rattle (never ending battle) in the drivers side door, so it's def playing louder without needing to go into the high 30's on the volume |

see if your HU has a source level adjustment, or SLA. that is where you can adjust the output level for all sources. set it once, and forget it.

An update:
USB files = much better SLA = didn't mess with, just ditched using the phone all together Time Alignment = night/day difference Sub Phase = seemed to have helped Sub break in = questionable but may have helped Biggest change on the subs was simply diving into the x-over settings in the pioneer deck, and somehow with the TA applied, everything has just kind of come together. Finally at the point where I can actually hear vast differences in crap vs. well recorded songs. Now the biggest challenge is simply finding good music that's timeless and well recorded, and not obnoxious. I've been on a phil collins kick, and it actually DOES sound good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1mSJpOBXFU&t=159s |
