Default backup camera install

Hi, I' trying to connect a backup camera to my aftermarket headunit. I've read the whole internet and I'm more lost that ever.

There is a lot of different wiring diagrams. Here is what I have, note that I do not have the wiring that usually comes with.

This is the diagram that I think I will need to use :

problem Is that I can't find that yellow rca with the red wire coming out of it. How can I wire it to my "backup wire" from the head unit?

Here is a picture of what I think I need to do. Please help me wire that "purple" backup wire that will trigger the camera when I put it in reverse. So 2 questions. Is this setup working and if yes, where do I connect the purple wire.

Thank you

Orange wire in the driver kick panel. Grab a multi-meter and test for 12 volts when put in reverse.

I was going to post but I'll let you figure it out, here's a tip...

Reverse wire is accessed behind the tail lights (I used the driver side) you'll see a ton of wires grounded there. Tap that wire for the reverse light.

Headunit has a purple wire reverse trigger, hook that up on the other side.

Not that hard you have 2 wires other than rca

I don't remember having to run my red wire rca by the head unit all the way back to the trunk just rca itself. the red wire up there should be to the reverse wire out of the head unit. and the reverse bulb wire I just grabbed it and followed it till I came through the grommet in the car that's where I tapped mine and just ran the ground to the chassis that's all that should be required just double check the rca is in the right video plug in the back of the head unit. some have specifics to the camera and not just the DVD player attachment.

Cut that red wire off the yellow plug. I've ran my own wire so omit electrical noise in the signal instead of using that red one

Highlighting his question here. Find the orange wire in the kick panel that I posted above and wire your backup wire to that.

Some cameras will come with a cable that has that red wire, some don't. You can run a separate wire from the taillight up to the head unit, or you can tap into the orange wire in the kick panel, both described above. Same same really since you need to fish the RCA cable through anyways. But you can save the step of removing the taillight if you just tap the orange.

ok thanks but if I tap in the orange, the camara will be always on? For now, I've removed the reverse light bulb. Only 2 wires, should be easy to tap into it by skinning the wire a little

Orange would only cause the camera to come on when in reverse

I have a 2014, there is no orange wire in the kick panel for the reverse trigger, did the color change?

Adding to this thread and maybe one or two others as I just added my aftermarket radio to my stock rear camera and some of the wires are different colors than what I've been seeing here. My Z is a 2019 Heritage manual.

In some threads I've seen the camera wires as being contained within a larger insulated gray wire. In my case it was a blue wire.
Some images show this gray wire containing 1 green, 1 red, 1 white and 1 black wire. In my case there was a red, white and black wire.
I tapped the white wire as ground and the black wire as positive for the rca cable that connects to the rear of my radio.
This differs from other instructions stating that the black wire is ground, red is positive and green is the reverse light trigger.

Here's an image from another thread showing the blue wire in the back hatch area. It looks the same in the kick panel.

For the trigger wire that shows voltage when in reverse, some threads referred to an orange or tan wire in the drivers side kick panel area. My wire is tan with a white stripe, also in the kick panel.

Hope this helps others with late model Z's that might have the same wiring as mine.

Guys im stuck i installed the moonet camera to a pioneer p1400.

Wired the camera to the reverse light bulb. Green to red positive and black on black. is that right?

wired the yellow rca from camera to the head unit. the rca cables both have a red wire on both ends. what do i do with those?

Nothing comes on the screen just black when in reverse.

Regarding the red wire on the rca cable. One end goes to the positive of the backup light (same as the camera power). The other end of the red wire goes to the "backup" wire on the head unit, if it has one. When 12volts is present on the red wire, the head unit knows to display the camera.

The positive wire on the camera must go to the positive of the backup light. The color of the backup light wire may depend on where on the harness you are splicing. I spliced where the harness passes through black rubber grommet to the inside of the trunk. The backup wire is orange or tan color at that location. And the negative is black.

i used the green wire that is connected to the actual reverse bulb. connected that to the red on the camera power wire and the black to black on the same reverse bulb. and i still have a red wire on the yellow rca cable

so you are saying basically to wire both reds (one from yellow rca and the other red camera power) to the same place, in my case the green wire(reverse bulb)?

EDIT: my head unit has a purple wire that says reverse signal, i wired that to the red wire on that side of the yellow rca cable.
