custom amp mount for spare tire

hey guys,

i was originally trying to mount my out of sight; (under seat, etc..)
I will have photos up later via the solid works program; of the amp mount rack i'm designing for the spare tire well. haven't seen or heard of an amp install on top of the spare tire.

the amp rack will fit directly over the spare tire; using a cupped ring that goes over the plastic screw plate holding the spare down (similar to the bottom of the big a** styrofoam support plug in place now) also using pins that fit in the lug pattern for stability and the plate on top to hold the amp that stretches across the diameter of wheel. all being able to hold the amp, keeping the spare. the pictures will explain more; i hope to have it drawn up and pics posted this evening, tomorrow at the latest.

I'll be mounting a RF Power series 600x2 amp on the plate.

In the mean time; any thoughts and comments would be great..

thanks,
SP

***accidentally posted this in the exterior/interior section... my bad

Am curious to see what you come up with. Was thinking of doing this myself for my sub amp and putting 2 JL 6.5" subs in the rectangle space in the front of the hatch where the foam thing is. Much more volume and mounting deapth there compared to inside the spare.

Hey all,

sorry for the length of time it took to get the pictures up; but here it is.

Made a few revisions; the amp rack now screws down into the same hole as the screw down piece that holds the spare tire down. Fits perfectly into the spare tire well. all components are made of aluminum except the posts.

I'll have pictures of it installed this afternoon along with the Zenclosures sub box; Panasonic 4100 head unit, RF Power 600.2 amp, 2 punch stage 2 woofers, with 5% tint on the windows....

Can't wait till 3pm......

nice

cross-flow fans?

SP44 12-15-2009 10:31 AM

no cross flow fans but i left enough space above and around the amp for great "breathability"

i will have the full install pics up soon.

sweet. let us know if there's any rattle that has to be taken care of through bushings or padding.

Nice job! Though I don't know if I would want to go around without a spare tire.

Maybe I am going crazy, but the OP said that you mount this over the spare tire.

I am just curious as to why you chose to mount in the spare tire area when you have a Zenclosures box. There is no place to mount the amp with their box?

I realized that I have been the definition of a slacker by not keeping everyone updated; apologies. Also the pics were taken with my blackberry so sorry if they are not the best.

Pretty basic install: PIONEER 4100 DVD, RF STAGE 2 SUBS, POWER SERIES PUNCH AMP 600.2, RF WIRING, ZENCLOSURES SUB BOX, CUSTOM SWITCHES AND IPOD HOOKUP. ALSO 5% TINT ALL AROUND

The amp mount is awesome (imo)!!! when i went to pick it up after the install, all the techs were really impressed with the amp rack. It works the same as the screw down cap as before and keeps the spare in place. No clearance issues, no heating problems, anything!

Any questions please let me know, hope you enjoy!

Regards,

SP
