The simplest solution would be to get one of the license plate frames with a camera and use the RCA video out and plug it into the aux port on the Nav (in the center console). If that source can run while the car is moving, then you would have an awesome rearview camera that could stay on all the time.

The problem with using the rear fog light position is that it is a very low point that would not give you a good angle on the ground behind you.

Right on - I just bought Boyo license plate camera and has served me well. Relatively easy to install and high quality CCD (not CMOS) camera to boot. I didn't realize that Z had a video input in the center compartment.

Might as well go full after market if you're not putting it in the stock position. It's got a built in identifier that lets you know how far you are from objects. I'm not 100% sure if it's also got the steering guides as well like the Infiniti's do, but if it does, it will also tell you where you're going to end up based on your front wheel turned direction.

Backup cam possibility?

The Boyo frame & camera works great. Very clear pictures. The XO blows. I ran from frame up through the license plate illuminator bulb then to the side (had to take out the tail light to fish the wire through), then along the existing wiring under all the press fit moldings, eventually coming through the center consol and hardwired it to the 12V power under the glove compartment.

I hate having brackets stuck to my windshield, especially if they block my view at all. I custom fabricated an aluminum bracket (courtesy Radioshack project box that I cut to shape). I painted the bracket flat black and velcro mounted it directly behind the instrument cluster so the display sits just to the left of the three dash mounted displays. The top of the screen does not block my view at all (I can see the hood over the top of it).

I opted to have constant power on so I can have a much better rearview visibility at all times. The perspective is like looking out the right side mirror..ie, objects in screen are closer than they appear. The benefit of this perspective is an extremely wide angled view, which eliminates any chance of a blind spot.

I tend to use it during the day often, since night time has too many artifacts..lights from cars behind almost blank out the screen. For backing up, it's very useful.

Of course, my installation was not on a Z. Boyo provides a wire kit that will run from back to front and then some. It has rca video that will connect to your navigation unit. I have a pioneer so it was pretty straight forward. YOu will also need to connect the power to line that can trigger the rear camera when you put in reverse.

how did u connect the camera to the stock nav? did u use the aux input cause it can only be used with the parking brake up???? please help, ive been looking forever.

No this works just like an orginal back up camera would work. Put the car into reverse and the camera comes on and interupts the video/navigation screen, and once into park or drive back to video/navigation screen again. Works just like my G37 coupe. I actually have the instructions I willl give to you tank. I have them saved on my desktop at my work. Pm me with your email if you like.

Is it the original Nissan Japan part? or a 3rd party? No software changes needed? Because I would LOVE to have a backup cam!!!

Yes. I bought the camera kit from a gentleman of ebay. Its the same unit that is in the G37. He emailed me the instructions that shows what wires are what and how to connect. I gave them the the shop I used and they had it installed and running in less than an hour. No software changes needed.
