TommyC33, just curious, I have not been able to detect any Active Sound Control enhancements and I've been listening intently. When are you hearing engine/intake enhancements?

I've rented a few Mustangs and it's pretty darn apparent when you fire up a v6 and hear a v8 rumble in the speakers... Stupid actually.

I've noticed it most under 50% throttle and up, and especially above 3k rpm. It sounds like the VQ engine, but like it was recorded on and played back through an iPhone or something with tinny audio.

I'm not in my car right now, but looking through the manual I can't tell if toggling that setting is doable through the service menu on the car stereo, or if you need a dealer computer to get into the menu...

That is for use with Nissan's CONSULT system, so the options may not be user settable. Any Nissan dealer should be able to do it.

There is nothing in your signature that links to an FSM for the 2016+. It would be helpful next time if you provide specific examples. Thanks.

My apologies for only pointing you in the right direction. I should have spoon fed it to you. :tiphat:

It was more misleading and time consuming than in any way helpful, because the manual you referenced in your link doesn't exist in the place you indicated. Anyway, I'm sure your intention was good and I was able to find it on Googles.

Off-topic, but is your username alluding to a C33 Laurel? :icon17:

No.

Where in MN are you?

I need to revive this thread. I just picked up my 2016 Z and I really can't stand the artificial nose being pumped through the speakers. Is the dealer the only ones that can disable it?

Nixin 04-06-2017 07:03 PM

My FI Exhaust seems to disable any potential artificial noise in my '16 Z.

Need4Speeds 04-08-2017 05:36 AM

I guess the dealer is the only option then. Let's hope my local dealer can figure it out.

Hmm....

What I find kind of promising is that Active Noise Control and the Active Sound Enhancement are listed as two separate features.

I just assumed it was going to be an "all or nothing" deal to disable them. And several of the reviews I've read commented that the noise cancellation feature was actually rather welcome, as it seemed to kill some of the "drone" at highway speeds that earlier models of the Nismo exhibited -- which could get tiresome on long road trips.

I don't care for fake engine sounds being played over my stereo, but noise cancellation would be fine by me to leave on.

If you want to disable Active Sound Enhancement (and you cannot do it programmatically with Nissan CONSULT) you can unplug (or cut) the ‘engine speed signal’ from the Bose Amp. It's the pin 28.

Thanks for posting all this useful info.

Mine is going in for an oil change next week and i've asked them to turn off the ASE but to make sure they leave the ANC on.

If they can't manage to do it i'll disconnect that 28 pin instead.

Geoff-AU 02-21-2021 04:50 AM

I had ASE turned off and the car was so quiet I couldn't even hear what gear I was in over the OEM tyre noise.. was driving along at 4000RPM in 3rd half the time. HKS Hi-Power catback fixed that without being obnoxious.

With ASE off I've tried ANC on and ANC off (after successive dealer services) and honestly can't tell the difference. I kinda wonder if ANC is nerfed once you turn ASE off. But anyway, whatever. Would have been happy to keep ANC but the fake engine noises were awful.
