better bass sound?

would the Bose woofers sound better in a box like the Zenclosure one or in its current location?

cptspeed 11-22-2009 03:09 PM

I doubt it.

bigaudiofanat 11-22-2009 04:38 PM

In one word no. They will sound just as band in a box as they do in the factory location.

Now I know you think the Bose sucks but it works for me, but I was wondering if being out of the enclosed plastic container and covered by stuff to only being in a boxed enclosure and facing the towards the back if it would improve the sound over current setup. If not then they stay where they are.

My guess would be no. That plastic thing is probably designed to get the most out of those little things.

bigaudiofanat 11-22-2009 06:47 PM

It probably would not it might make it deeper but will still act the same way when you turn up the volume.

We had this discussion in person, and my first thought was that there would be an improvement with a larger enclosure. A decent speaker is a crap speaker in the incorrect enclosure.

To be honest though, I've never seen the factory "enclosure" for these subs, so that was assuming the subs were in a very small stealth-oriented enclosure that fits in the spare.

The bose system comes with an amp for those 2 subs right? I wonder if it's possible to get a single Bose 10" (assuming you need to keep it Bose) or 12" and use the factory amp to push it in a Zenclosure.

The price of a Bose 10/12 inch woofer wouldn't it be worth the price vs. something aftermarket. And the factory amp probably only pushes 40-60 watts to 2 little speakers so... good luck finding a 10-12 that will find that to be plenty of power.

Have you seen them? I posted these pictures a while back:

Holy crap! Those look more like 4" "subs" than 8" subs!

Did I already say "holy crap!" ?

bigaudiofanat 11-22-2009 07:36 PM

From what I have heard their is only one sub in the z. Also I agree about it is not even worth messing around with something like the bose sub. Also before you ask no you can not just put a new sub in as the bose system and amps will still fade the bass out. If you want to do it right start over or use a mtx re-q to add a new amp and sub to your bose system.

i suppose they could make the very low frequency under the trunk liner.... but wow, that's pretty tiny. :D
