I like big butts!

I know iknow. Some of you think that the rear speakers are waste of money. But hey, I like some rears. As I have the much needed sub, the only thing missing would be the read fill.

Could someone please share the maximum depth the rears could accommodate?

Thanks.

JB-370z 11-20-2009 08:38 AM

Are these 4"??? I dont know the depth? It would be nice to know this as well because I just ordered a Focal 4ch amp so I have to fill the rears now otherwise I will have to bridge the amp. Do you plan on going coax or just a mid or maybe even a comp?

2fast4thelaw 11-20-2009 08:45 AM

I agree with you, Rear fill really does add alot of ambiance that would otherwise be missing.

I will tell you, you are not going to be able to fit 4" without alot of modification. Find a good set of 3-1/2" speakers and cross them as high as you can. At least 150 to 200Hz and 300Hz or 400Hz would be even better as you can apply more power to them.

I used a set of JL Audio CS series and they fit perfectly. I wanted to put a set of 4" focal polykevlar midrange speakers in there but they wouldnt fit. Depth does not seem to be an issue with speakers this size.

I wouldn't bother with a comp set. A good coaxial or just a midrange speaker will suffice for the proper effect. You are not going to hear bass or highs from them anyway.

So the JL's you used are 3.5" and fit the rears? These would be perfect for me.

Pls advise so I can order today. Thanks

I have Dynaudio components which I believe are awesome for the Z. I also built two boxes of subs that fit behind the seats.

People are correct about just having highend fronts....after a while you can't tell the difference. In my case what I am trying to eliminate is the noticeable non-existence of the rear speakers the first 5 minutes of getting into the car.

They are 3 inch and I have no idea abut what size will fit there just keep in mind you have to run new wires to them as their is none there. I still disagree with rears. especially with something so small.

MindFusion FX 11-20-2009 03:17 PM

exactly.

if you're the audio guy you should know that song..its got alot of bass. good song to test bass on systems.

Update:

I ordered the Infinity Kapp Series 3.5"" Custom-Fit 2-way Loudspeakers for the rears. I installed them late last night. And........................

I AM THRILLED!

1. The 'void' is no longer there.
2. Front staging is still there.
3. My system is louder (I had to use a much lower volume setting).
4. There is no negative effect to the existing Dynaudio front components. In my opinion, the Kappas complemented them.
4. Did I say, I am thrilled!!!!!!!

Is it worth it to install rears? In my opinion, based on what I have heard from my system so far, YES!!!!!!

Note that this is post/thread was not meant as an argument; rather, similar to "beatury is to the eye of the beholder", "music is to ears of the beholder".

Now that I have the custom subwoofers, the upgraded front and rears, amps, etc. I think I am done with the stereo.

kenchan 01-29-2010 02:27 PM

hummm... im not sure if i want a full range speaker in the rear... the void is at around550-650Hz, i think it was if i remember from the base's stock fronts.

if it was a mid-range speaker or if you disabled the tweeter (just cut the wire) on the coax i can understand.

cab83_750 01-29-2010 08:30 PM

I was thinking about disabling the tweeters. However it sounds great as-is!

Here is my summary so far:

before adding the rears, I felt like listening to the music/singer about 4 feet away. With the rears installed, I feel like they are directly in front of my face. Now, that's without adjusting the balance and fader.

I did play with disAbling the rears. And time after time, 4-speakers win!

roplusbee 01-30-2010 01:37 AM

Awesome. Glad you like it. What type of music do you normaly listenn to? I am trying to get a feel for how the system is performing and how long it is actually pushing the speakers.

Hmmm! That's going to be hard as I have been told I am a complex man. I listen to Yahoo's Top 100, Rap, Rock, old school band like Rolling Stone, Queen, recent artist like Eminen, Pdiddy, JayZ, Akon , vocals like Diana Krall, you name it. It just depends on what time of the day or night or what company I am with....

Heck, I am even a fan of Country music even though this music lacks bass that I always want.

One thing I know....I seldom listen to raege (sp?)

What do you you mean by 'pushing.....?'

I was trying to get a feel for how the system was performing with the music that you listen to. Hip-Hop tends to force a system to perform harder, unlike country or pop which don't normally demand as much output simultaneously. I am used to hearing systems with a lot of distortion, but that is usually from folks that just want to turn everything up. I love booming bass, but there has to be balance. And to have booming bass, you need power, space, and correct tuning for it to sound good.

I do have a giant 1000-watt, very low THD, PPI amp powering the Dynos and the 2 long throw TangBand subs.....just in case you are wondering about my power.

roplusbee 01-31-2010 01:40 AM

Nice. Sounds like a pretty good setup. I can't wait to get back to the States soI can pick up my car and start installing goodies.
