Default 2009 bose w/ NAV. Have some questions about LOC & EQ options.

I did not realize this nav system would be such a headache! I know a little about audio but not the technicals of it, but its pretty much established that I am stuck with the factory headunit, apparently. Which sounds like ****! Have any of you been able to successfully get it to sound good?

Anyway, since I am stuck with it, what are my options for EQ and sub control? I have always had nice headunits that I could tweak the sound on from the cabin, and the factory one sucks. Options are flat, flat, and flat. Is there an external EQ I can mount somewhere to change the sound on the fly?

Also, I know I need a LOC to hook up an amp for the sub, but what is the best out there/what are you all using? I have never needed one before. I read the stickies but they have aged so curious if something new and better is out. Also, since I will also need a separate smaller amp for the component speakers, does that mean I need 2 LOC's? Where do you wire these LOC's from?

Any help on this would be great. I want to run a 10' sub, at least 2 components in the doors, tweeters, and 2 amps (1 for sub one for components).

Thanks

Yea so i bought a 2010 with a nav system, but with after market kicker speakers and bose sub, if you want to replace sub also that could be done. its not a super difficult to do, what you need is a summing processor which takes signal from wires that run to bose amp in the back and gives you rca out puts which you can then run to after market amp and whatever speakers you want. if that is not clear enough let me know...i can take some pics of my truck set up. Also if you want to mess with frequencies you can add a sound processor between summing processor and amp.

if you want to remove nav, you can do that by replacing it with base model ac controls, then you can add an after market head unit, amp and speakers

I think I follow you. Pics would definitely help. So in that case, I would need atleast a 5 channel right? for 2 door components, 2 tweeters, a a sub. So something like this:

Kicker Front Row ZXDSP1 (12ZXDSP1) Digital Signal Processor

and then an EQ between that and the amp?

since I want to run a separate amps for the components/tweeters, would it go something like this?

Headunit bose line > "?" channel LOC/summer >sub amp? > sub? AND >other amp > speakers?

How many channels would I need on the LOC/summer? So I am essentially not using any wire at all from the original headunit except the one line running to the LOC/summer? As you can tell I have never dealt with anything like this in the past, only wired up a 50 x 4 headunit to 4 coax speakers and ran a line to a sub. This is all so complicated! Thanks

Anyway, since I am stuck with it, .......
You are not stuck with the factory NAV. It is possible to delete the factory NAV and install an aftermarket system. Here is the DIY for to convert the AC controls: DIY - Nav System Conversion Then refer to any of the stereo DIYs for installing an aftermarket system. Many people like scope22 have already deleted their factory NAV and I’ll be deleting mine later this year.

Won't work. To run a factory NAV system in a Z that didn't come with one would require replacing much of the cars wiring harness to make it work. Not impossible but very impractical. The money you would have to spend making that conversion would get you a top of the line after market system.
