I've seen alot of pictures of people with non navi models that put in their own screens. My question is - do you find it to be too low?

Nope. I have a Kenwood DNX6140 which incorporates Garmin GPS navigation.
The voice commands enable me to look at the road and not bother looking at the screen. With the DNX6140 you can also listen to your music while voice directions are running in the background; it's pretty neat. Hope this helps

Hmm. Good question.
You know what, I do think it's slightly lower than where I would want it. I have the Kenwood 6140, and although I don't have any issues with the headunit (so far ), I wished it was slightly higher. I think the original nav (Nissan installed) has a better position. |

I wouldn't mind it being higher, but it doesn't really bother me at all.

im still battling between getting a Z with stock navi or go for aftermarket navi..but i was a bit concerned about the screen height. not because of taking my eyes off the road but just with the whole changing songs, watching videos, back up cam..etc.. I have a AVIC D3 in my current car but its up in the area where the stock navi sits.

Get the stock system and install your own will be a much better way to spend your money and much easier to upgrade in the future. You really will not have to look at the screen especially with the kenwood models, the talking gps always works well and you will not have to look at the screen. Also from what I have played with it will be a lot easier to input an address with the aftermarket one.

I actually prefer the placement of my aftermarket Nav/Head unit. When I reach for my items in the nav storage, I feel like I'm reaching, but I feel comfortable operating the head unit.
