Nav build
Just thought i'd share my nav project, if you want to see more, check out my album, its almost done, it looks rough because I took leather off because i'll get the whole thing reupholstered for a seamless look.
Result at this point is wrapped in copper carbon fiber: I added a notch on the right to expose light sensor Deleted 2 buttons above shifter which will be relocated to the console http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...4-09-55-56.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...4-10-16-21.jpg This is what orange leather which i decided against: http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...8-16-04-00.jpg I started with base 370z dash trim with cubby and a double din adapter Removed all leather stuff Cutoff top of double din Cutoff cubby to the same thickness as the double din walls, glued everying with some J-b kwick http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...ure90626-1.jpg Manufactured cradle with some 12x12 sheets of plastic so that i can mount the tablet flush. http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...5-10-58-09.jpg Placed cradle inside and sanded down everything http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...5-10-56-07.jpg Applied 3 layers of bondo and sanding between applications and its ready for uphostery http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...7-18-47-58.jpg So i dont like the step lip look, so i glued in some dense foam board trimmed excess http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...9-17-08-56.jpg And a layer of bondo http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...9-19-51-02.jpg Also decided to do that shifter bezel since i dont like the OEM look http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...7-18-48-05.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...5-10-57-31.jpg Test fitting: http://www.the370z.com/members/scope...217-170833.jpg |

What kind of tablet are you using? Whenever I'm back in Georgia, do you mind if I met up to see this thing and ask for advice?
|
Yea man I'll pm you my number
I'm using sony Xperia z2 bought it used for 250 it has fm radio gps its thin and light and good sound quality Quote:

After reading this last night I went order crazy and got a bezel off eBay, a single din of eBay, a Sony Xperia x4 tablet, a case I can modify, plastic, bondo... Haha
|
lol, i didn't mention but you do need some tools, table or flooring saw is a must and a dremel tool and power sander, but good news is that is pretty cheap, just labor intensive, damn wanted to get a z4 too but seemed too expensive for a car build...

This is what I wanted to do!!! I was going to use a single DIN head unit though to handle the bluetooth calling as I couldn't figure an elegant solution to handle handsfree calling using the tablet alone. Are you planning on doing calls?
I am most likely just going to wait for the Valkerie or Brainiac solutions.. though the price tag is a lot bigger than what you are doing. =) |
Yeah, I'm still gathering supplies. Are you pairing this with a single din had unit in the glove compartment?
|
Thats crazy...i have 3.5mm jack from tablet to rca going to amps for sound, for this tablet 3.5mm jack acts as an antena for FM radio so i'm going to get a 15' of ti and run on top of windshield under headliner, if you want usb music, then you can connect usb from glove box to tablet, you may need a hub if you're connection a few things

Really though that's really impressive curious to see the end result |
Where can you get a dash kit with an opening for the 2-din + glove box to fit a 10" tablet?!
Other than what the OP did, if someone sold a kit I might just try another android tablet install, have one in my 2012 Kia Sportage with a single din JVC X50BT stereo behind it. Works well most of the time, but it was really a PITA to configure properly. |

any updates on the the CAD? would like to buy this soon!

This looks excellent. I am thinking about going this route for an Ipad install as well. Looking to see how much of the bracketing/ipad mounts that I can 3d print but my build volume is only 300mm by 300mm by 400mm So I may have to get a little creative.

Yes! The CR10, The model you made looks good. I am looking forward to see how it comes out. Any chance you would place the model on grabCAD or somewhere where I could get a copy of it? I am going to be using an Ipad so I would have to change the sizing a little bit. But I am no stranger to solidworks and that would be a simple fix for me. Is there any reason you are using ABS for this? I know the CR-10 can kind of handle ABS. But I've only really printed on PLA for now. I am looking into printing the carbon fiber stuff too, but I want to see how different it really feels and looks before I decide to buy the parts to make the CR10 capable of printing it. |
any updates?

Clocks and instrument gauges. I took possession of my sport model 370Z two weeks ago. A wonderful drive! I’m happy with my choice. I have noticed that I can have as many as three clocks showing at any given time. I have thought of replacing the clock in the dash three gauge cluster with an oil pressure gauge. Is there any available information available about such a conversion?

This needs to finish sooner so i can buy! lol :icon17:

Yea, i just finished a 34hr print that looks good. I'm now test printing back support for tablet, should be finished today or tomorrow. Then the design is going to a local shop for final high quality print that i'll be using for casting. All mold making chemicals are here, i'll be making some test molds this weekend. Casting chemicals are ordered and should be here early next week. if all goes well i'll be making some test casts next weekend.
Everything i have already figured out, ie picking up phone calls on tablet, tablet will wake up and shutdown on ignition via arduino, steering wheel controls hookups for sound...ect, i will probably need a couple of days wire it all up and do a video demo. Also the only tablet this will work with is sony xperia z2, its an older one and becoming hard to find, once i get some time i'll trying to find something else, the problem is charging and using USB otg function at the same time. z2 tablet has an additional charging port. |
Too tight at the top and bottom, one more test print should do it

I know they can run Android apps from the Play Store, but not sure how they handle APKs. |

Waiting for a quote to have this printed in professionally....if it comes out great then i can use it for making the mold, otherwise i'll have to do a layer of bondo then sanding then primer and sanding again....sigh. On the bright side i have everything figured out so that tablet comes on/off with ignition and stays charged, bluetooth support for answering calls...sound is easy via phone jack or usb.

Quote came back a bit high, im going to try myself, its about 6 day print.
|
I am so excited to see this finished, I sooo want one! Any updates?
