Default Nav build

Just thought i'd share my nav project, if you want to see more, check out my album, its almost done, it looks rough because I took leather off because i'll get the whole thing reupholstered for a seamless look.

Result at this point is wrapped in copper carbon fiber:
I added a notch on the right to expose light sensor
Deleted 2 buttons above shifter which will be relocated to the console

This is what orange leather which i decided against:

I started with base 370z dash trim with cubby and a double din adapter
Removed all leather stuff
Cutoff top of double din
Cutoff cubby to the same thickness as the double din walls, glued everying with some J-b kwick

Manufactured cradle with some 12x12 sheets of plastic so that i can mount the tablet flush.

Placed cradle inside and sanded down everything

Applied 3 layers of bondo and sanding between applications and its ready for uphostery

So i dont like the step lip look, so i glued in some dense foam board trimmed excess

And a layer of bondo

Also decided to do that shifter bezel since i dont like the OEM look

Test fitting:
cv129, 1st, Luciano13 and 3 others like this.

What kind of tablet are you using? Whenever I'm back in Georgia, do you mind if I met up to see this thing and ask for advice?

lol, i didn't mention but you do need some tools, table or flooring saw is a must and a dremel tool and power sander, but good news is that is pretty cheap, just labor intensive, damn wanted to get a z4 too but seemed too expensive for a car build...

This is what I wanted to do!!! I was going to use a single DIN head unit though to handle the bluetooth calling as I couldn't figure an elegant solution to handle handsfree calling using the tablet alone. Are you planning on doing calls?

I am most likely just going to wait for the Valkerie or Brainiac solutions.. though the price tag is a lot bigger than what you are doing. =)

Yeah, I'm still gathering supplies. Are you pairing this with a single din had unit in the glove compartment?

Thats crazy...i have 3.5mm jack from tablet to rca going to amps for sound, for this tablet 3.5mm jack acts as an antena for FM radio so i'm going to get a 15' of ti and run on top of windshield under headliner, if you want usb music, then you can connect usb from glove box to tablet, you may need a hub if you're connection a few things

Where can you get a dash kit with an opening for the 2-din + glove box to fit a 10" tablet?!

Other than what the OP did, if someone sold a kit I might just try another android tablet install, have one in my 2012 Kia Sportage with a single din JVC X50BT stereo behind it.

Works well most of the time, but it was really a PITA to configure properly.

Checkout Tesla build, thats the closest to a kit as you're going to get.
