Audio Suggestions
Alright, I'm getting a new black 370Z and wanna make the audio system awesome.. Going to spend around at most $8,000.. Already decided to get a Alpine 2-DIN 4.3-inch touch for Head unit with a navigation upgrade. So need some suggestions for the best quality sound (Subs, amp, and front speakers)
And also would this be good, PXA-H100 (Alpine) imprint thing.. |
4.3in in a double din? 7in is easy for a double din dvd nav touch
i would so come high qual 6-3/4 (or 6-1/2) separates, 1 10" sub, and a single amp with a hi/low xover. it wont cost anything near 8k, but it'll sound great in the z as small as the cabin is. |
don't forget sirius radio, hd radio, and a rear camera too
|
Ok im going to get the IVA-W505/P1 (Alpine 7in touch) with rear cam and HD Radio Tuner
For the speakers Type R SPR-17S (6-1/2" Component 2-Way Speaker)? SWR1042D Type-R 10" Car Subwoofer?-What do i use for enclosure, where do i put? I dont know what to get for amp.. Any ideas? |
Don't know any specifics really. I would recommend running equal length wire (preferrable 14awg) from the amp into the doors for the speakers.
Screw the factory 20awg wire. |
I have the Type R SPR-17S in my car now. They are good speakers, but not amazing. If you're going to spend 8k, you can probably get a really nice set of focals and work from there.

First off congratulations on your Z! Second GREAT choice on the head unit. You are going to get a nice clean signal out of that.
Now for amps I would look at audison. They are a very solid Sound Quality amp company. Speakers i would recommend looking at image dynamics XS series, Focals, or the Polk SR series. Personally I love image dynamics and they have a very solid and smooth sound. They just do not roll off the frequencies when you start turning up the volume. Of cores that comes to your amps job as well. For sub my choice is the Polk SR Or again Image Dynamics with the Q series. I would look at getting a single 12 inch in a sealed z enclosure box. The imprint is a nice device to help you setup your system. If you are looking to get the best out of everything I would look into it. Just make sure your head unit can support it. Here are some links to help you see what I am recommending. If you need any help or have any questions please feel free to ask. Subs IDQ12V2.D4 - Image Dynamics 12" IDQ Dual 4 Ohm Subwoofer SR124DVC - Polk Audio 12" 1400 Watt Dual 4 Ohm Subwoofer Amps 4 channel amp SRX 4 - Audison 4 Ch 340 Watt Amplifier Sub Amp LRX 1.400 - Audison 1 Ch 900 Watt Amplifier If you want one that will do everything take a look at these 2 LRx 6.9 - Audison 6 Channel 940 Watt Amplifier THIS THING IS A BEAST! PDX-5 - Alpine 5 Ch 600 Watt Digital Power Amplifier PDX5 Speakers XS-65 - Image Dynamics 6.5" 2 Way Component System 165VRS - Focal 6.5" Polyglass Shallow Component Speakers SR6500 - Polk Audio 6.5" 2 Way Component System with External Crossover Also almost forgot check out zapco as well for amps. I'd spend some money on the HU but not 8K!!! :D
I suppose you can get some dynamat too... |

I would not even spend 8 grand on a head unit because it is nearly impossible to do.

"wanna make the audio system awesome.. Going to spend around at most $8,000.. (For the audio system)... Already decided to get a Alpine".
H/U : IVA-W505/P1 (Alpine 7in touch) with rear cam and HD Radio Tuner - with PXA-H100 (Alpine) imprint Speakers: 165VRS - Focal 6.5" Polyglass Shallow Component Speakers Amp: LRx 6.9 - Audison 6 Channel 940 Watt Amplifier Sub: Focal 33KX 13" K2 Car Subwoofer (Recommended Sealed Box Vol.(cu. ft.)1.06-1.77 Sub Enclosure : I dont know? Can a sub enclosure for 350z work for 370z.. isnt the trunk different? Dynamat: Should i put put it all over the car? Which deal should i get for to get enough of dynamat? |
change it to 2-3k for audio... and the rest for hp mods :D
|
I agree, definitely get a 7" screen
I just spent about 3k from online audio stores ( saved about 1k ) retail$ did the install myself ( saved more$ ) see my install videos here http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/1...ll-videos.html I would say if your budget is 8k then what the hell, spend 8k. Get the best quality out there. I went with a ZEnclosure to house my JL audio 12w6v2 and it thumps pretty awesome. But with an 8 grand budget what the hell. Fiberglass that puppy. My Jl audio HD 900/5 amp puts out 500 watts to the sub, But what the hell, put 1000 to yours and pound away. Maybe add another set of mids in the car as well as a high end set of components up front. Good luck man, make sure you show us some video or pics when you finish. |
A bigger screen just not necessarily mean better internal components for the audio or better quality. Just means a bigger screen and higher screen resolution. I would stay with what he has.

Alpine has great sound quality, I had the 9845 in my 350z and liked it. should be a nice choice for you. Also here is a pic of my 12w6v2 JL in the Zenclosure box. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...Install008.jpg |
H/U : IVA-W505/P1 (Alpine 7in touch) with rear cam and HD Radio Tuner - with PXA-H100 (Alpine) imprint
Speakers: 165VRS - Focal 6.5" Polyglass Shallow Component Speakers Amp: SRX 4 - Audison 4 Ch 340 Watt Amplifier and LRX 1.400 - Audison 1 Ch 900 Watt Amplifier Sub: JL Audio 12W73 12" W7 Car Subwoofer (1000 Watt Peak Power Handling, Single 3-ohm voice coils, 86.2 dB Sensitivity) Sub Enclosure : Z enclosure box Dynamat: Dynamat Xtreme 9-Sheet Bulk Pack (Kit contains nine 18" x 32" pieces) that enough? How does this look? Also should i add rear speakers? If so what should they be? Can they be the same as front? |
Looks good man, as I said my choice would be image dynamics for speaker but that is my choice. Still will be nice.
|
I purchased the bulk pack you mentioned and it completely will fill your rear hatch and doors. If you wish to add more under your seats etc. you would need a bit more.
Awesome choice of sub in my opinion. If I was going to push a 1000 watts to the sub that would be the one I would buy. You can't go wrong with JL man. I was always a believer in rear speakers in most cars and had them in my 350Z. But with the 370 I took the advise of many who say they are not needed and hooked it up without them. Went with the Boston pro60 se's up front and I have to admit. They are right. My sub pounds out the low frequencies and together I am surrounded by acousticly balanced tunes. I love it, and I am glad I didn't waste another 300-400 on some coaxials behind. It truly sounds like they are there though...weird but I like it. Good luck, I look forward to seeing it. |
No rear speakers!!!!! Sorry I missed that in the post.
|
Another question.. Do yall get that vibrating feeling with the sub facing towards rear in zEnclosure? Also i wouldnt have any problems with the rear glass with my sub pounding on it would I?
|
The glass will be fine from the bass, I have seen a lot more bass than a single sub put in cars with stock glass not breaking. The reason for the sub to aim back and not forward is because it allows the bass to reverberate off the back and than come at you. If you had it forward than it would reverberate off the front and go to the rear. You will get some vibration DEPENDING ON HOW YOU TUNE IT, you can set your gain to make the sub really hit or have it actually go along with the music. If you are worried about vibration I would say look for a smaller amp or make sure to turn your gain down.
|
alright, ill get right on this... ill post pics when done.. thanks for the help..
|
Good luck man and take your time. You are going to like those amps!
|
I would do a set of 3-way splits in front. That will be my next upgrade once Nazar makes the door pods for the 370Z.
My suggestion would be a set of Focal Polykevlar or Polyglass 3-ways speakers. Running 200 watts per channel and you will have the most amazing audio experience of your life. 3-ways are much louder and much more detailed than comparable 2-way components. Installtion costs will be high but thier worth every penny! I have a set of the Polyglass 3-way splits in my Armada and they sound better than my $1100.00 Polykevlar 2-way's that I have in my Z. They flat out perform them in every way possible and I am running less than half the power to my 3-ways as I am in my Z. They are phenominal and the Focal midrange speaker is amazing. I am astounded how loud and clear that little 4" speaker will get! Here is how I sum it up: They are soo loud and clean they will liquify your ear drums and they sound so good doing it you won't even care! I will second the JL Audio 12W6v2. Its the best SQ subwoofer money can buy in my opinion. |
But for the normal installer they will not know fiberglass and all to have a 3rd speaker installed in their doors.

Are you familiar with "Nazar" of Wicked C.A.S? He is pretty well known on the 350Z forums that this forum braqnched off of. They make really sweet stuff for the 350Z. My brother and I did a serious Focal SQ stereo install in my 2005 Anniversary Z. I especially lioked how the Yellow cones of the Focal Polykevlar speakers matched the Yellow car. I was trying to find a matching polykev Focal sub but Focal subwoofers were really hard to find then.
I am waiting to see what Nazar will come up with for the 370. The door pods he made are first rate and they make a huge difference! My sub enclosure for my Focal sub was one of the first boxes made by Zenclosures. He is planning on making them to hold 3-way splits. |
