Nav System/Bose Audio (For owners who want to change the system out)

Greetings,

Just some information about the factory Navigation system and those of you who want to change your systems out. I own a 2010 370Z Convertible and I have been thinking of replacing the Navigation system/Radio in the car. I have read a lot of information on line that many other owner have said, no don't change it and that everything is linked to it. While yes this to a certain extent is true. I decided to myth bust this theory over the weekend.
I disconnected the Navigation system, and I had no issues with any of my lights working.:ughdance::happydance:
While I agree this is true to a certain extent, such as seeing the temperature on the screen when you turn the air up or down, or even when a call comes through on your phone, yes I agree you will loose this functionality.
I do have a limited edition "Z"...1 out of 64 however unless my "Z" is one that was made differently than all the others ever produced, this should be applicable to any owners that want to change out their Navigation system(s).
Hit me up if you have nay questions:):happydance:

You still would need to install a new head unit which would remove the climate controls and that stands true sense the connectors are different from the base model to the one with nav. So unless you install a head unit above the factory radio this really will not work.

There are 3 types of facings for the 370Z. According to Nissan Parts locally here, although they all look different, the 3 pieces all have the same connector for the AC, so yes you could utilize any face to replace the one you have. This would allow the replacing of the factory Nav system with an aftermarket Double DIN, you just would loose the function of seeing how cold the air is. No need to install above the factory one. It is replacable

I think someone has already tried this twice and failed. I would like to see this done if it can be. From the ones I have had to pull out to integrate aftermarket speakers in, the connector is different.

I'm switching mine out so far no issues. Not sure what to say really as I have heard that the factory stuff is non replaceable etc....and that it wouldn't work and that the factory system has to stay in.....however (always a however), I removed the head unit to test and much to my chagrin everything vital still functions, no loss except for the minimal stuff like seeing the temperature or an incoming call.
I haven't yet bought another bezel piece but according to what I see online, the connector for the AC controls is the same size. I verified this through Nissan that they make 3 versions (all being interchangeable).
I'm not doubting what you say but hard facts are telling me that this isn't the case, things work and there is no loss of critical components.. I'm leaning towards it will work.

Hey man, were you able to swap the system? I'd be interested in purchasing your Nav head unit and screen

Hi yes I was able to swap the units but due to there only being a limited amount of my Z's made, I'm not selling the original equipment. Thanks

Here's a question for you guys.....
If i have all the nav components ie harness, screen unit, key pad, radio unit etc.... Could this be installed on a base.model?

I'm not sure that anyone has tried, but if you have everything including harness i dont see why it wouldn't work, you may need ECU also? just a guess

Luciano13 03-09-2016 08:56 AM

Ecu? I have no idea about that....

I can't see the Ecu being different because of the nav?

bigaudiofanat 03-09-2016 09:20 AM

Not ECU but climate control box I believe.

Yea you definitely need this, its $100 on ebay. but in all honesty, factory nav sux, i had it in my 2010 and removed it and replaced AC controls with base model controls and then used a tablet for nav/music:

Going from non-nav to nav is not impossible but it is very impractical and going to cost a lot of money. The cars complete stereo wiring harness needs to be swapped out. I'm not talking about one or two connectors in the dash I mean the whole wiring harness that runs through out the whole car. This is due to the subsystems that need to be added like the GPS antenna, ECU inputs into the NAV system, and a few more. Also all eBay sales of the factory nav system that I have seen do not include the GPS antenna. The GPS antenna is not the antenna that is on the roof, it is actually in the dash above the HVAC fan/ glove box. Depending on which system are starting with you might need a new steering wheel too so you can have useable steering wheel controls.
