Name this Doodad?

If i don't end up doing a slimline Sub inside the spare, I was thinking I could fit 2 JL Audio 6W3v3's in the compartment where the factory bose amp and such goes. Trying to figure out what this little black thing with wires coming out of it is, and if it can be relocated to the spare tire side of that bar to make room for a box? I've got my Boston Z6's with 400 watt RMS to each side going so i'm really needing a sub now :P

Unless you are going to make a enclosure for the sub and take care of all the rattles that can appear in that area I would not recommend putting subs there. Not sure what the black thing is.

Of course I would make an enclosure.

I wondered what that thing was myself.

I think that area could have potential for an enclosure. I think you could get pretty creative and fiberglass something up.

It is probably just there to help hold the foam piece in.

If it was just to hold the foam piece in, it wouldn't have a wire harness plugged into it. My guess is its the sensor for the smart key or something similar because its about equal distance from the 2 doors and hatch. My concern is if i flip it around to the other side will it be backwards and think i'm at the wrong door or something.

That is probably what it is, for when you are at the trunk in that case I would be careful what you cover it up with you might not be able to gt in your trunk if it can not see the fob.

Unplug it and see if the trunk button still works.

:icon08:

Its not there to hold the foam piece on. My current theory places it as 1 of 2 things. Airbag sensor, or keyfob sensor. There is also a similar sensor located the e-brake lever under the armrest.

If you can get a shot of the front of it, there is a manufacturer and part number, perhaps one of the dealers here could look it up and let us know for sure.

It looks to be the "Smart Keyless Room Antenna" (E).

As long as it is centralized in the car should not be a problem moving it.

Great, thanks.
