Amp for 12" sub
Need help choosing an amp to power my sub. I'm planning to remove my spare and get a sub box in the place.
12" 4-ohm subwoofer power range: 50-400 watts RMS peak power handling: 1,200 watts frequency response: 34-300 Hz sensitivity: 85 dB http://www.crutchfield.com.edgesuite...W3013PS-F.jpeg http://www.crutchfield.com.edgesuite...PS-o_back.jpeg Kenwood KFC-W3013PS Performance Series 12" 4-ohm component sub at Crutchfield.com |
First thing you do is Google shop it. It can be had much cheaper.......then look at the soundstream nano amps. Small package, small price, big power.

Ron has spoken!! Crutchfield is $$. I have never bought from them. I just use them for ## references since they have everything. Soundstream nano is a great amp for the price. I'm running one. Not the best, only great though.

+1 to Ron. Class D is the way to go in these Z cars due to the tight install locations. I burned up a MTX Class A/B amp mounted under passenger seat that even had a fan on it. Now have a Rockford 4 CH Class D(smaller footprint/more power) and it barely creates any heat at high volume levels. Stay away from BOSS, due to their lack of quality/reputation. You get what you pay for.
I like the PN1.650D better due to the sturdier connections for power/output. The below link is very reputable and will save you lots of cash over Crutchfield. Soundstream PN1.650D Picasso Nano 650W Class-D Monoblock Amplifier Don't forget a quality 4ga amp wiring kit! |
Recently installed both a pn450 and a pn650. Both customers were thrilled In the 30 years I've been in it, I haven't had a soundstream amp let me down yet.

Thanks guys! I'll look around for a local pn650.
