Nissan is on the list, but I'm doubting that they add it retroactively.

I haven't heard of any company planning to retroactively adding CarPlay or Android Auto to older vehicles. I would love it if they did, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'm thinking about getting the pioneer 8000nex with CarPlay. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I bought the Kenwood ddx9702s with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. I'm hoping to get it installed this weekend.

Own the 4100NEX and love it. after the iOS 9 update the double din is pretty much has no lag and carpal has a slightly updated look to it, as compared to iOS 8 on carplay.

I've got the 8000NEX. Carplay is still improving, I need to try it again after the iOS9 upgrade, but from what I'd found before, the native maps and nav in the 8000NEX were still superior as far as actual helpfulness in driving.

Plus, you still have to plug in your phone and unlock it to use CarPlay. Apple has hinted that wireless access to CarPlay is coming in the future, and that will be the real deciding feature for me. Never having to take you phone out of your pocket, plug it in, unlock it, and find a suitable resting place will make it so much better of a feature.

Siri on CarPlay is an amazing feature in theory, but a lot of factors get in the way of actual benefits. The quality of your microphone, where you place it, and ambient/road noise still seem to get in the way of good voice recognition much of the time... often making it easier to stop and type in what you're looking for, rather than being able to use the voice commands that it was intended to provide. That, and there is still no universally good workaround to set up the 370z's bluetooth steering wheel button to an aftermarket unit, so you're forced to use the siri button on the screen... which means taking your eyes off the road.

Again... defeating the process.

All in all, it's a great idea. And the tech is continually being improved, updating much more often than the native Pioneer stuff, but it's not a perfect system yet by any means.

That all being said, the 8000NEX (and now the 8100NEX) is a fantastic HU, and I would highly recommend it even besides the CarPlay component. The capacitive touch screen is much more like your phone, and much more responsive than the older style screens. It is pretty glossy, though, which can lead to some viewing issues with glare.

I don't have it installed yet, but I just purchased the iDatalink Maestro SW for my steering wheel control (instead of the Axxess or PAC). The reason I went with it is that you can customize the programming of the buttons, including a secondary press and hold function for each button. One of the programming options is for Siri or voice control.

You would need to check their website to ensure that it would work for your steering wheel and after market head unit. But that option is available now.

I have the Maestro SW (and the 8000NEX)... I'll have to go back and check that option to see if I can use a press and hold. That would be amazing.

If it's been possible all this time, and I just missed it, I'm going to feel like an idiot.

Of course, you'd think that would have been something that the iDatalink customer support, or Pioneer customer support (who recommended the SW) would have told me during one of the many phone conversations that I had regarding the SW and the HU.

I went looking around today and i am going to go with the kenwood DDX9702s head unit with apple carplay, maestro RR steering wheel controls with OBDII data. the kenwood has a gauge display but needs the maestro RR to work. So it kills two birds with one stone. I just need to get a price on the Maestro as the only dealer in my area is closed on the weekends. . But i think this will be a pretty cool set up.

I bought the same head unit, and went with the Maestro SW for steering wheel controls. I considered the RR, but it didn't look like it gave you very many of the gauges on the Z. I'll be interested to hear what all you get with it.

I have my wiring harness all ready to go, and had planned to do the installation today, but we are getting constant rain. It's driving me crazy to wait for it.

For my Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX the guys who installed mine said that the only thing that will work is the:

Volume
Favorite Channel up/down
Phone pick up/hang up

Nothing else works on mine they said it was some kind of incompatibility with Nissan steering wheel controls.
