Mirror Phone Display on Factory Nav Screen
I've been searching around a bit trying to find a way to display different things on the factory navi screen. Ideally, there would be a way to display torque pro app gauges/readouts from the an android (or apple...I guess) to the factory navi screen. With the searching I did the only options seem to be hks camp2 (no longer produced but could theoretically be found used), madgen (no longer produced and even more difficult to find), and carpc's or raspberry pi type setups which aren't overly simple. There's another thread here from carbonsignal with some options but it doesn't appear to offer an interface for android phone user to connect the phone itself and display obd2 readouts.
So then I got to thinking what about mirroring the phone on the nav screen somehow. Which lead to searching for different cables to connect the composite inputs already in the car. Which is where something like this comes in: http://www.amazon.ca/HDMI-Composite-...glnk-ca-c47-20 Does anybody have any experience with trying different cables to make the nav screen mirror the phone? I'm guessing it's nowhere near as obvious or straightforward as I'm hoping lol. I saw a video with a lexus mirroring a phone display but it required chromecast, a converter, 2 android phone and hardly seemed worth it just to drive around. I guess what I'm wondering is, can I display the torque pro app's readouts on the factory nav without it getting overly expensive or complicated. |
So after scouring the interwebz and all the random electronic shops within driving distance to me I managed to find this http://shop.gopro.com/accessories/mi...ACMPS-301.html
It's a micro usb to composite cable made to display gopro media on a TV. I'll likely just end up buying it and trying it out myself. But wondering if anybody here with more knowledge about this kind of stuff knows offhand whether that cable would work. |

I bought a Blitz one used from Japan and it works great. It's discontinued as well but there're a lot of used ones for sale.

Edit: I found something on ebay but they're pretty expensive ($400+) that would make it cost prohibitive. |
I don't know if anybody else is even interested in this lol but I'm pretty sure I'm on to something. Android phones (I have an LG G3) mini usb port is capable of outputting a digital signal (think hdmi) and wouldn't work with the cars analog composite inputs. So I think an MHL adapter would be required. I think it would go something like this: LG G3 - mini usb to hdmi cable - mhl converter - rca cable - rca input in car. Would also need one of these: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B005...A2SUJMBSXWX5S4 |
interested to see what you figure out. I have an iPhone though, so probably will never work for me!
