Default Recommendation for sub upgrade

Currently using an Infinity Kappa perfect 10 in a sealed cab powered by a jl audio 500/1 and it sounds great ,however when I crank it up it reaches its xmax and starts to make a klacking sound .
I thought about adding a second ,which I already have . But now Im thinking of keeping it to just one sub . As I said it sounds great it just wont go loud enough so Im thinking of just getting something better .
Can someone recommend a single 10 that would sound as good or better and not fart out . It just needs to go a bit louder . Budget is around 2-300

How many big (sq-ft) is the box you currently have?

I have a type R that was in my Camaro before it was sold. Was amazed at the sound that came out of it. One catch though: it was in a large ported enclosure. It was made at the largest recommended amount of air space. This made it hit soooo low and clean to my ears, but there really isn't that kind of room in the Z. Would look at reviews for 10's that specify air space used and whether or not it performed well in frequency response range. Good luck!

Depending on the box size, the type r is an awesome 10. I had one in a sealed box and it sounded great, would have sounded better with a little larger of a box. My box was .78 sq-ft + some pollyfill. 1 sq-ft is the minimum you want for the type r, but of course sealed boxes are more forgiving in size.

The JL 10w3v3 is a very powerful and great sounding sub that only requires about .7 cubic feet of box size. I have a Rockford 500 hooked up to it at only 1/4 gain and it gets loud if your looking for that as well.

Get a shallow sub with a matching cu/ft box. I have the 12 type r shallow in a custom box. I think it has .80cu/ft or a little more with somepoly inside. It sounds nice. Very clean sub. I would of bought the Stereo Integrity shallow sub but did not want to wait months for it. I read an article from a high end audio engineer (I think one of S.I's guys actually) rated the Shallow type R top notch.

I recently went from a sound stream stealth 13 to a stereo integrity bm mark 4. The SI is a straight up SQ sub, and does it flawlessly, but its not for you if you want serious bump. The sound stream was a great sub, and I believe is the shallowest sub out there. Very small sealed enclosure, and more than enough bump.

More interested in SQ than SPL I just need a tad more volume . Would a 12 blend with the front as well as the 10 does ?
Took a look at the SI sub .Its more inefficent than the infinity and the xmax is the same ay14 so if I understand correctly its not going to be any louder

Would go with the more efficient sub for more volume as you stated. A separate gain control for your sub amp is super handy if your amp has that capability. After having one, I got spoiled.

First off... A disclaimer, I have no experience with them in my ride, although I have two sitting in my garage. One motivation sets in, I'll be building a fiberglass box for them. I can only go off of what I've heard and reviews, but my understanding is that the quality is amazing, especially for they're price. Loud? Not the ones I've heard or from the reviews I've read, but in a 370z, how loud do you want it? It'll be louder and deeper than the 10, so it may be perfect for you since you were happy with the 10, other than spl.

loud is hard to define from one person to another..... unless you speak in metered db. don't let that efficiency number get too deep in your head.
