When you installed the head unit, did you use the factory mount?

No, it wouldn't work. I used the Metra 99-7607B kit. The radio was a bit of a booger getting in the kit, but I finally beat it into submission. It looks good in there.

TarheelGolfer 09-22-2015 12:15 PM

Well, now you've got me nervous. I have everything ready to do my own HU install this weekend...except a dash kit.

After reading this thread:
http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/7...ailable-3.html

I didn't think I'd need one, and could just reuse the factory one. But your experience says otherwise, so now I'm not so sure.

I tried to use the factory bracket at first, but there were no matching bolt holes in my radio.

I am reusing the factory one with my pioneer and it it worked out OK. There is a small gap around the radio though.

Thanks madwi. Hopefully it works out for mine too. I'll find out this weekend.

Didn't mean to highjack your thread BoneZ. Looking forward to your next photos.

I'm wiring like a fool as we speak.

BoneZ 09-22-2015 06:34 PM

We have sound!

Now the months of tweaking can commence, but that's the relaxing part.

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...8b1ad12895.jpg

The amp has its home. I even found a convenient spot for the bass level knob, which I don't really want anyway.

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...7f076b2db9.jpg

I used a hole saw to cut a couple holes in the foam to pass the wires though. I glued in some copper pipes to trim it out, make it look better than just holes.

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...eaa084d82e.jpg

I'm happy with the sound. Still a bunch of tweaking to do, but I'm calling it a success. That sub is droppin' LOW!

My chief audio engineer evaluated the system and gave me his approval.

It takes a while for sure.

using test tones to set all frequencies equal before even touching the amp takes a while by itself.

BoneZ 09-23-2015 07:10 PM

Spent lunch and my breaks switching crossover points and playing with levels. I got it dialed in close-ish.

Relaxing for the most part.....I can't even count the hours and hours spent sitting in cars in the garage tweaking. In the 4 years I've had the Z, considering speaker changes, amp changes, ect... I would say 100 hrs tweaking would not be exxagerating...then there's the countless hours just chilling out listening to it....
Man, I love this S$#t.....lol

After consideration, I am going to make my final cover and stainless steel grill this weekend.

BoneZ 10-08-2015 05:50 PM

I started making my grill and cover board.

Dam those speakers got some power in them..

Just one thing I am wanting to ask do you think you able to fit an 4inch tweeter in?? . Its a bullet Tweeter.

azza12311 10-20-2015 08:33 PM

Also the mounting on the tweeter is 3.7inchs

I don't see a 4" fitting in the dash. Those CDTs are only 2.5".

The BlueMax 11-07-2015 10:35 AM

That bass level control will come in handy at times, my front 6&1/4s seem to be working too hard to try and stay up with the rear sub

The BlueMax 11-07-2015 10:39 AM

I like the front dash setup they would provide extra imaging in addition to my A pillar tweeters

Still looking good. Keep the pics coming

BoneZ 11-07-2015 11:11 AM

I need to get back on it. Weather has been crappy.

BoneZ 05-12-2016 04:15 PM

After all these months, I finally got around to the upholstery on the cover panel.

Now I just have to fab the stainless steel grill.

BoneZ 05-14-2016 03:28 PM

Looks very clean. What did you use to wrap the wood?

Thanks. It's this felt I found at Wal-Mart. It has a more course texture than usual fuzzy felt. It looked very automotive to me. Stretches nicely too.

Less branding makes me happy. I think I'm going to put the Z logo in the center.

It still is Massive. I thought it was distracting with the grill. A big Z would be sweet.

BoneZ 05-17-2016 04:53 PM

Still a little Massive.
