Base Stereo HU Size Question

Regarding the base stereo. Will any double DIN aftermarket head unit fit, or do I need the Metra kit? I thought the Metra kit was only for single DIN units.

Any double DIN should fit fine, there will be screw holes on the sides of the aftermarket radio that the nissan bracket will attach to.

No Metra kit required, just screw on the stock brackets as stated above. They will fit perfectly.

jep. and if you have gaps around the trim, get some EZ felt from those artsy stores and cut to shape like so... for a factory finish look.

My Clarion unit even had notches in the sides that matched the dimples on the factory bracket.
Perfect fit!

No kit required just the wiring harness and the head unit. My choices are kenwood and alpine. Not a fan of pioneers reliability but that could be my own luck with them.

Yep and don't forget the antenna adapter that you have to order separate from the wiring harness.

How do you like the Clarion? I have been leaning heavily towards the VX709.

So far: nothing but good.
I'm hoping to get the Sirius and rear view hooked up this weekend so I can give a full report.

It's very easy to use, which is a welcome change from the JVC in my truck.
