Those with radar detectors/dashcams, do you hide them?
I'm a new Z owner, and have a radar detector and a dash cam. For those that have either/both, do you remove it and hide it in the center console every time you park? Or do you leave it hanging on the inside of the windshield?
I'm just worried someone might break in and take my stuff, I don't live in a particularly bad area or anything. I used to hide it but it became such a hassle after a while, but I'm not sure if I should get back in the habit again. |
I leave mine hanging but I park in a garage at night and work has security that patrols the parking lot constantly.
If I was going to a movie theater or something I would probably take them down to keep them out of sight and out of mind of curious people. |
In the 370Z, I leave my V1 attached to its bracket mounted on the rear view mirror pole. I have oversized, very dark (5%) windshield strip that keeps the V1 out of sight. In my other vehicles, the V1s are attached to their brackets with suction cups and they are tucked up high almost hugging the headliner above the rear view mirror. These also have oversized, very dark windshield strips to help hide the V1s.
I have no dash cam. |
My Escort sits on a Blendmount. I only remove and stow it if the car's going to be parked for awhile like long-term airport, or an overnight stay at a hotel in the Twin Cities.

I keep my Dashcam rolling in the car as it has parking mode feature. It records everything. Well... if someone broke in and jack my dashcam.... fck. On second thought brb, heading out to install viper alarm:wtf2:

My dash cam is built into my rear view mirror and my Escort 8500 stays mounted, but I honestly never park my cars anywhere out of my site for an extended period of time and it stays garaged, but I will admit my neighborhood and surrounding areas are pretty much crime free. Georgia is full of gun owners and licensed carriers and in small towns like mine things rarely happen here especially knowing people have the right to bare arms and fight back. I'm originally from New Jersey and trust me, it's a whole different world from the two especially when it comes to car security.

Out of Sight
Really easy to put em outta sight.

My radar detector is easy to put out of sight, but my G1W dashcam is a pain in the @ss to take off its mount.
It's really the only issue, so I might just hide the radar detector since the dashcam is a lot harder to notice than the detector. |

I break boards with my face and then point at people.

I found that aggressively flexing in the direction of anyone walking by is sufficient enough, the rest is just overkill.
|
dont tell EW cause he might release something extra while flexing.. :ugh:

I have never removed my radar (have it on a blendmount) but I just purchased a $250 dollar Dash Cam. I really want to remove it but I also have "Parking Mode" on there (records while car is parked) so I cant really remove it. I just hope for the best lol

I have had the Escort 8500 X50 for YEARS. I always keep in hanging when I park. The only time I take it off the windshield is during the summer with the sun constantly beats down on it.
If you're in a shady area where people may break in then I would hide it too. |
just hit the panic button as you walk away from your car. no one wants to mess with a car that already has the alarm going off, goods are already taken

V1
I have a V1 on a Blendmount. I remove the V1 and take it with me every time I exit the car with the exception being the odd ocassion where I can see the car from where I am. I figure it just avoids being the victim of a quick smash and grab.

I use a 8500 in a weathertight box under the front. Run 4 wires through the firewall. 2 for power and 2 for speaker on a switch.
