The true fanatics of car stereo hate "thumpers" as much as anyone else, because it ruins their image. Same thing as some teenager street racing and wrecking a Z, it ruins the image. My stereo sounds plenty good and it's more than loud enough to earn me that $242 ticket I earned once. I got the ticket on a highway near the city limit. I was nowhere near a residential area. I think these tickets should just have the price raised, not go on records... Not all of us with loud stereos are immature kids trying to show off to everyone else. It is for the thrill for many of us. Why else would we enjoy going out in the middle of the country to meet up and play our stereos? PS - Don't call us stupid for hitting a certain dB level. It's the same as cars and hp/tq. A quantitative measure of success or improvement. (Although I do agree that caraudio.com is a joke. Bunch of immature people on that forum) Last edited by speedoflife; 10-21-2009 at 03:00 PM. |

How quaint! It's pretty simple, make a law that requires people to remove their hearing aids when not in use = problem solved. Too much pandering goes on in this country. |

I would have a nice stereo in my car for ME not for ppl fuckin 25' away... I mean... I kinda agree that the law is lame - but I honestly wouldnt want ppl hearing my music outside the car... There is a difference between clean bass and annoyingly loud bass

It applies to audiophiles as well (I'm a hardcore audiophile... my stereo cost me more than my car). Every speaker review in Stereophile/Absolute Sound/Etc will mention both bass extension (some people are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars just to get those last few Hz) and spl (sound pressure level). So we want bass... the main difference is that we're not willing to sacrifice sound quality for that bass; a bass-shy system with accurate sound is considered to be much higher quality than a "thumper," which might deafen you but sounds like a**.

There can be a point met between the two areas.... dare I use the term.... SQL (LSQ).
I just feel like there is a huge stereotype that places things on two completely separate fields: either "boomer" or SQ system. There is a sort of middle range of responsible people who like loud, clear sound, and are responsible with it. |
