10" or 12" Subs
Hey guys,
I've always thought that the stock audio system for the Z was bad, and I'm not one to really care about it. But I believe it's time for an upgrade. I've looked around for a clean looking box and never found one. So I was looking into having a custom one made, while I was searching online for custom boxes, I came across a pretty clean looking one on Amazon. (Attached) My questions now are. Should I go with a one 12" sub or Two 10" subs. I've been leaning towards the two 10" subs, reason being it makes the box look like it's not just taking up space with one sub. The two 10" makes the look "cleaner" in my opinion... I won't be pounding/blasting my music. Just want the sound quality to be better while at the same time have the Z looking good. Now with that being said I was looking into getting two 10" Fosgates... P2's but should I go with 2ohm or 4ohm? Which amp would complement them best? uploadfromtaptalk1431017113599.jpg |

If the subs are dual voice coil (I would assume they are) it really depends on what amp to determine which ohm rating the subs should be. If you are going to get an amp that is stable at 1ohm, get the 4ohm subs. If your amp only goes down to 2ohms, get the 2ohm subs.
Two 4ohm subs can only be wired together at 4ohm, 1ohm, and I believe 8ohm. Two 2 ohm subs can only be wired together at 2ohm, 0.5ohm, and I believe 4ohm.

I am running 2 10" subs and it is more than enough bass for a very clean sound. That is the route I would go. A 12" sub is going to hit hard but depending on amp and box design may not be as clean as tight as the 10's

Moral of the story is buy good equipment and do it right the first time.

If your going custom, take a look at the RF shallow subs, P3's, or check out the Diamond Audio DS subs. AS for a custom box I've made a few, check out my full install album, might give you some ideas.

i have the zenenclosure 12" sub box that is facing up, and i love it. Enough bass for me, but i love bass and i bump hard, Pushing 800rms right now. I don't know if there will be a big difference vs a 12in and a 10in but ill let you know 1 12" sub will be plenty for you.and it'll sound amazing!

A good single 10" is all you need in the Z. It all comes f own to what kind of sound you are looking for. If u ou just want loud, well there are plenty of options and anything will do. If you want tighter bass, a 10". If you want more boom, a 12". not all subs are equal. Shallow subs d ound different from regular ones. A good quality amp plays a significant roll in the sub sound too.

Just personal experience and opinion. I also believe that the enclosure of a shallow sub plays a bigger roll on sound that it does on a non shallow. I'm not sure why or maybe I'm bias. I do like my Type R Shallow sub. It cost more but I wanted to have use able space in my trunk so a shallow was the ticket.
