Introduction
My Tablet integration into my 370z

Tablet: Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7” (rooted with custom apps running, I.e. xposed installer, busybot, viper4androidfx, etc)

Smart Phone: Sprint Note 4 with custom SprintBobcat rom and rooted (rom comes with wifi hotspot hacked, custom kernel to also tether network through bluetooth).

First and foremost I’d like to thank all others who have attempted this and have been successful in doing so. Your DIY and youtube videos helped me greatly.
Back in mid March I decided I wanted to change up my boring stock head unit (“HU”). My inspiration started from reading Larry’s tablet build on here Cubby Tablet Mounting Bezel and on his website http://www.370designz.com/]Nissan 370Z Cubby Tablet Computer.

Long story short, I was very impressed by the quality of his tablet modification into the Z. I also read into other peoples' tablet mod/diy in their Z utilizing the cubby hole. The more I read the more excited I became to want to try this project myself; however, I knew I did not want the tablet anywhere near the cubby, so I Modified the dash trim, tucked the HU all the way to the (I had to tuck the nissan harnesses to make room). The tablet (7") was a perfect fit (which sits in fornt of the stock HU) and on I went to making this project come alive.

DIY coming soon but wanted to go ahead and upload pics.
Picture 1: completed integration. Tablet mounted. PLX and Tzumi Pocket Juice mounted in the cubby, and the Scosche magnetic mount for mobile devices to left/buttom of the passenger airbag light).
2/4: Aligning and mounting the tablet to the dash, AUX cable (Left, black) and USB charging cable (Right, green).
3/9: PLX Kiwi bluetooth and Tzumi Pocket Juice - 4000mAH rechargeable power bank mounted. Green usb charge cable to the tablet, black micro usb cable to the car's power outlet (Cig lighter).
5:begining to take out the HU and tuck it back to make room for the tablet mount.
6: HU tucked all the way back, angled up and secured. 3.5mm AUX cable to tablet is connected to HU AUX port.
7/8: Cut into the dash trim to make room for 3.5mm AUX cable and USB charger cable. You need an L-shaped 3.5mm aux cable to clear the back of the ignition button.
10/11/12:Tzumi Pocket Juice - 4000mAH rechargeable power bank with 2.1A output for turbo charging
13: Scosche premium 3.5mm aux cable
14: Belkin 4ft charge/sync cable- micro usb (you'll need 2 of these
cables)
15: 3.5mm AUX Stereo Male to Female AUX Y Audio Splitter Cable (any brand)
16: PLX Kiwi 2 bluetooth - Run apps like torque or dash command to view on-board diagnostics. PLX connects to your OBD-II port.
17: Scosche Magic mount- magnetic mount for mobile devices

great innovation on the tablet idea.

how do you feel about it being recessed that far back? i am thinking particularly about scrolling/swiping.

Thank you bud.

The tablet is not that much recessed at all. No interruption to scrolling or swiping. I thought I would run into that, say swiping down the notifications menu but no issues there.

The only main issues that came up during instal (as I will note in my diy):
1- align the tablet in a way so that the dash trim does not obstruct the IR/ambient light sensor at the top front of the tablet. This detects (& automatically adjusts) color temperature, brightness, and RGB components of ambient light to your smartphone.
2- L shaped 3.5mm jack (which will connect to the tablet) to clear the back side of the ignition button

Any other issues will be documented in the diy

Did he just pushed the radio as far back as he could and the tablet goes in front of it or does the radio unit has to come out?
I mean, I ask due to my level of ignorance, so don't be so hard on me ok.

Exactly what I did. I took out the HU and took off the brackets holding it in place. I then tucked the nissan harnesses a bit to make way for the HU. I then pushed the HU as far back as I can. I secured it in place with two drips of gorilla glue at each end of HU which held it in place (you have to angle the HU slight up to do this) SEE PICTURE 3,5 & 6 . The tablet sits right in front of the HU.

Wish I had a goPro mounted on my forehead while doing this...

Update: The tablet is now a standalone HU without using your oem HU or AUX cable to the oem HU.

The tablet connects to an equalizer's "main" or aux rca ports via aux to rca cable.

All speakers + sub in the car also connects to the equalizer via amp (speaker & sub cables to amp then rca cables from amp to equalizer) to receive sound from the tablet.

BOOM! No need to run aux cable from your tablet to the oem HU. Get rid of your oem HU and save some room AND sound quality!

Rewiring of the speaker cable is necessary to achieve this. If you have crossovers it makes installation so much easier.

Do you get bluetooth calling?
I am in the beginning stages of figuring out my tablet integration, and I bought a headunit to go with it because it did not appear that an android tablet could also handle hands free calls through a bluetooth connection with my phone.

I have not wired in bluetooth calling yet. I am trying to see if there is an app that would integrate with my phone. Since my phone is paired already with my tablet via bluetooth, that would be the easiest, seamless integration for bluetooth calling.

Okay I think I got!

So I read up on a few apps and downloaded and tested a couple and they all failed. So I came across this thread bluetooth - Answer my phone on my Tablet? - Android Enthusiasts Stack Exchange and basically it solved the whole hands free calling for me with one issue which I explain below..


1. download the following apps (google play store or apple app store) to your tablet and cellphone: google voice, google hangouts and google hangouts dialer.

2. go through the google voice tutorial and set it up on your phone and tablet.
- make sure you connect with w.e. gmail account you use bc it will sync all your contacts to those apps.
- Also make sure your *correct* phone number is connected to the google voice app. This is a step in the tutorial as you setup the google voice app.

Testing stage

3. Placing a call: Since your tablet already has built in microphone place a call using your google hangouts dialer.
-Tablet calling: using hangouts dialer, make a phone via your tablet to a friend or your home phone. If its a friend ask them how the call quality is. when I called my sister via the tablet she said the call quality was fine meaning normal as if I was using my cellphone. *my internet on the tablet is tethered via bluetooth on my cellphone*

- Receiving calls: have a friend or relative call you on your cellphone. When they call you, you should also receive that call on your tablet. It is simultaneous.
Here is the road block I am facing....:
**the issue i am running into is when I am receiving a call from my phone; however, answering on my tablet, my phone still continues to ring even though I have answered the call via the tablet. (Trying to figure this out- so stay tune)

**Calling/receiving calls via your tablet is free in the USA and Canada. No charges apply. google voice mimics your cellphone calling plan / carrier restrictions. Obviously placing any international calls will incur charges.

I hope this helps.

Next up is to figure out if there is an AUX/mic combo that I can plug into the 3.5 jack as my tablet is mounted at the location of the oem HU. And since the mic on the galaxy tab 4 7" is on the bottom near the home button, I think my voice quality will suffer or will sound muffled.

That is a good workaround! If you are in a place with poor data coverage though, your hands free calling will stop working - but that is a pretty low risk item..

Unfortunately I have already bought and installed a headunit with bluetooth and purchased a 9" tablet to integrate so I am going to keep going the direction I am in.

If I had figured this out beforehand though, I would just delete the stereo completely and run everything off a 10" tablet. The phone ringing issue probably wouldnt even affect me as I am on project Fi, so I have nearly perfect hangouts integration to my phone service.
