anyone interested in replacing door speakers but....
don't want to go through the trouble of installing components? these babies fit in with a 3/4" spacer, and sound absolutely fantastic. They also handle a TON of power. All that, and then theres the price...........you can't go wrong, trust me..

So just upgrading a woofer but having no new crossover network?
|
Correct. These are listed as a coaxial, but they are actually a mid/woofer. Very high build quality, and sound exceptional at all power levels. I run them at 200 watts RMS when I pull my hertz woofers in the off season, about 50 watts higher than the hertz, and they absolutely slam....
These can be used to replace factory door speakers ( non Bose) and run off head unit power, or amped separately from the factory tweeters with no problem. I bought 2 extra sets just to throw on the shelf... You can't beat the price. |
At first I was like ....Lanzar? But you are right and the spec's are there. Monster mid bass.

Do these speakers make a big difference from the base ones (non bose)?
|
I am just concerned if you decide to replace tweeters as well, of course you can replace them separate but at that point you could of just bought a component set.
|
Precisely why I stated, If you do not want to install components. If you decide in the future to go with components, you still have a bad as@ pair of woofers for another project, or just let these woofers in, and use them with the components xovers.

cause looking at ur sig, you got more than just a pioneer HU.. |
I currently have them in. I remove them, and replace them with my Hertz woofers when I am going to Sound Quality Competitions, which is a few times a year. I use these for DD. I have a show fast approaching that I may leave them in for, just to see if the judges can pick up on the fact that there are $40 drivers in the doors, as opposed to the $300 or so the hertz cost.
|
 lol if judges can't tell. :rofl2:
|
you and me both. And I'll be sure to point it out to them afterwards......
|
kinda like letting some 3yr old paint a canvas and display it at the art museum.
judges get all wow'ed by the artistry... :rofl2: |
Wow Ron you are the first guy that I know that has DD speakers!
|
Sounds a little strange when you put it that way! There are a few in our circle that do this...what's even more bizarre is that the z is not my daily driver lol
|
i can see that though. wear and tear on the speakers from just parking the car outside...add to that rain that can get on the motor.
|
lol.. something like that. everyone knows that a car is far from being the best listening environment, and the road noise in the Z, even with tons of deadener, does not help that matter. So I have a tendency to twist the volume knob far too much while cruising about. Just trying to save my ridiculously expensive woofers the additional wear and tear of my everyday bumping. I would rather replace the cheaper woofers.
Nuts, I know, but its my thing. |
so i only have a AVH-4500BT pioneer in my Z, no amps. would the HU provide enough power to drive these lanzar speakers?
i dont play them loud at all, more for fill while waiting at the light. my Z's noisy already from the exhaust i dont need any audiophile performance. :D |
Sure, Head unit power is fine. I can't speak of the sensitivity of the factory speakers. But I can guarantee that the lanzars are going to be higher. What that translates to for you is that they will be slightly louder than factory, which you may not notice. What you will notice is a great improvement in low frequencies, in respect to power handling, and extension (they will play sub-bass). That alone makes it worth changing the drivers.

Note that I used to run a 10" sub off the head unit power using Pioneer's Front Image Enhancement feature and found it acceptable for my DD needs in my old Explorer Sport. But that was a long time ago, and I have not considered buying speakers without an amp in recent years. But I'm pretty budget conscious when it comes to upgrading interior features on the Z (I want performance before comfort). Also note that I have some real experience with lossless audio on a serious audiophile system ($25K Mark Levinson electrostatic speakers, $15K Theta processor, and $20K Krell amplifier). That's not at all what I'm looking for in my Z for precisely the reason that you have already noted - the car is not at all ideal for sound reproduction. Any thoughts are very much appreciated :tiphat: |
Ordered two of these tonight as per your suggestion. My current speakers aren't cutting it, and I need a little more clean mid-bass at high volume. I'll let you know what I think when I get them installed later this week.

so some spacers then plug and play? I just upgraded the HU to a pioneer 4000nex and while stock speakers sound better its painfully obviously they are being pushed too hard lol. I only have base audio
|
In the 30+ years I have been involved in car audio, I have installed thousands of pieces of equipment, in every price range you can imagine. Its very rare that I promote a product to the masses, Especially when I have no dog in the fight. These things just simply blew me away, and the price was a big part of it. These are $80 per pair, and perform like speakers 5 or more times the cost. The pics on amazon don't do these things justice. If you buy a set, you'll know what I mean when you open the box, you WILL say to yourself "Holy SH#T". You'll say it again once you get a look at the difference between these and your factory speakers, and a third time when you hear them installed.
That's 3 Holy Sh#ts for $80. Thank me later. lol :tiphat: |

Just ordered a pair...I do have aftermarket tweets so what do you suggest?

cause the base speakers SEVERELY lacks 300-500Hz. it's like some dumbarse EQ'ed it all out and the stereo sounds like a thin piece of shitty plastic. im seriously going to consider these DD speakers. :D |
