Personally, I'd always have a standalone boost gauge rather than only running the boost controller. Electronic stuff fails more often than mechanical gauges in my experience.

True, but even a boost gauge with a electronic sender has less to fail than a boost controller. I'd always have a separate gauge rather than relying on the boost controller. I've heard of plenty of boost controllers ******** the bed. Not nearly as many reports of failed gauges.

I have had customers use the Boost Controller as their gauge in the past, however I prefer a gauge which is on the pillar and much easier to see during a pull.
As far as electronics failing, I have yet to have such an issue with quality aftermarket components, however I have see vac/boost reference lines blow off components due to improper installation.

10s years on my evc5. Pulled it from my 350z. No secondary boost gauge... I don't think it's important enough to be worthy of extra wiring and clutter. If the evc should fail... I would replace it of course. So I would never be without a boost gauge.
