How do you guys suck the power steering fluid out of the reservoir? Mine has a screen blocking it right at about the cold min line. That is the most I can take out and it is a very small amount.
After I made this thread I read that it is a problem with later model Zs and it was recommended to replace the reservoir with the older model so I can siphon all the fluid out. Last edited by NissanParty; 01-14-2023 at 10:18 PM. |

I have been looking at fluid reservoirs and I see some on eBay that are new for $35 or so. Obviously these are not OEM. Would it be a bad idea to use one of these? It is about $200 cheaper than OEM.
Another question - how do you change the reservoir without getting dang fluid all over the place? |

Make sure you put the right fluid back in. It takes Dextron 3 ATF fluid. Look in the owners manual. Do not put power steering fluid in it or you will have a mess.

I have a 2014 and I just use a vacuum machine hooked up to shop air to suck the reservoir dry. Then I add fluid. The hose on the vacuum machine was about the average diameter of a normal straw.
You could also probably just remove the right side air filter housing that way you can unclip the reservoir from its mount. Then disconnect the lower line with a drip pan under it and drain the reservoir that way.

Later models have that secondary screen in reservoir.
I was told that you can swap out for a G37 reservoir which is a classic style, open reservoir. Late model P/S fluid reservoir Post #15. Last edited by ZoomZ; 04-02-2023 at 12:44 PM. |
