If you didn't feel comfortable going that far, you could give the nonprem members access to only a dozen or so canned avatars, and let prem members only make custom ones.

I don't think signature lines are enough to encourage people to join, but if it's one of several things benefits then it couldn't hurt.

I think an increase is fine, and altering what premium v. standard members get will help make the money worth it. Though for me, I see the increase as making a better server (behind the scenes) but not everyone sees it the same. ;)

I'm not sure what would get me to pay for a forum. In all likelihood I wouldn't look back at either car forum I read now if they required me to pay.

I'm not trying to troll or start an argument, I just wanted to respond to AK's question with my honest opinion (even though I figured it would be unpopular).

This ad free site is run on the backs of the prems and the vendors. Have you been to other sites that are so congested with ads that you can't even navigate the site? Or how about when "keywords" in your text link to some other site.

In order for a site to be run this well, some people have to be adult enough to make a small sacrifice.

Here's an idea.. how about making sure only Premium Members get access to any special vendor pricing / Group Buys??

Tough call because then you are limiting the vendors on making money, now it might be an incentive to vendors to do limit/small group buys with maybe a special bonus for premium members. Like asking what premium members need currently, oil, camber kit, etc. and try to get some special pricing just for them.

Good Suggestion....

edit: :crying:

yeah, it limits vendors sales, and who is going to police it to make sure only we get the special pricing? it sounds good in theory, but the actual practice may prove too difficult.

Here is the deal - the only people who have problems paying with the increase are going to be those people who weren't going to get Premium membership - so w/e lol - but AK - I will be signing up for Premium to help you keep this site up and running fast like it is now

i'm good on the $5, i'll just starve one friday this year and not get my $5 subway sandwich :p

and honestly, i agree with some points earlier, how about moving some of the customization capabilities that regular members currently have (i.e. avatars) and make that a premium member capability?

nuTinmuch 01-15-2010 11:54 AM

I'd pay it, easily. The community here alone makes it worth it. Pretty rare you get a bunch of relatively level-headed people on a car forum.

And not this.
