Who's time was he infringing upon? The receipt checker? Not like he had anything better to do. The chick who was berating him instead of going about her business? That's her problem. The manager? You could argue the manager wouldn't have had to deal with this situation if she had explained to her employees that they can't force someone to show them a receipt.

If standing up for yourself was convenient, it wouldn't take balls would it? In this case the matter is pretty stupid, and I think it's the Virginia law that's out of whack. If you don't like the store's policy of checking receipts, don't shop there. But, since the law says he has the right not to show his receipt, he has that right.
