Heres what you need at a bare minimum in order to not be damaging your paint:

-Hose with a good nozzle
-Car wash soap (decide for yourself what you want)
-2 - 5 gallon buckets
-2 Grit guards
-2 lambswool wool wash mits (3 is better). some prefer microfiber, either are good.
-several waffle weave microfiber drying towels. try to get tagless or at least just make sure you take off the tags

search youtube for how to wash a car with 2 bucket method with grit guards. this should get you started.
