I followed a thread where a few enthusiasts removed the rear section of the exhaust merely for the sound difference. I tried it myself tonight and welded up a set of turndown tips that bolt up where the muffler was. I ordered a full exhaust system so I am offering these to anyone who would like them. Structurally solid and polished quickly, the only gripe is that I welded them fast and by no means are they artistic welds. I have them ground down pretty well and it is welded from the inside as well to create a seamless flange.
Sounds really great, no rasp and very deep and present idle. Sound tapers off nicely toward the upper rpm range... Beside the weight savings and sound I wouldn't make any claims for power difference, but a dyno may prove a slight improvement. Thick flange and mandrel bent 2.25" pipes.
I wouldn't recommend it a long term solution, but for those who are waiting to buy a exhaust it is rewarding to hear the beauty of the VQ.
