I recently went to a family dinner at a very well known, high class (too high class for me) steak house with my family. This place takes 3-4 weeks to get a table, valet parking every day of the week, really overdone IMO. Bathroom attendant and everything. My stupid sister-in-law left her purse at the place and, even dumber, didn't realize until the next day. We called the restaurant, a customer turned it in. Debit and Credit cards were missing. Of course everyone blamed the bus boys, but it was turned in by a customer. The manager and owner basically said what Sam at GTM ALLEGEDLY said "sh!t happens". Why? Because as we were arguing with him he was looking down at a book of reservations that were packed for a month, along with waiting lists and people calling for more.
It's a business. People will get away with the absolute most they can until it really starts to effect their bottom line. See: BP, Toyota, GM, Madoff, etc. Unfortunately it seems, it's always too late.
