Its not so much the diameter of the wheel but more the profile/makeup of the tire that determines ride quality/harshness. You can 17" wheels that ride worse than 20" wheels if the profile is more agressive.

If you want a very similar ride to stock then get 20" wheels with tires in the same brand and profile as stock.
