OK, the GT-R comparison has some up several times here. I even brought it up myself as an example of how performance cars are moving to AT for quicker times.
The GT-R is a street legal racing car ("super car" is the term, right?). Not in the same class as the Z. No well informed car guy is going to walk up to a GT-R owner and bash them for having an AT. Even if they wanted to, the excessive drool would prevent the words from coming out.
It seems that for the most, part, Z owners know what they want in terms of transmission, and are happy with their choice. So I think sonic's initial question has been answered:
