Traffic court varies from state to state. In my state, you're a fool if you don't go. The worst that will happen is that a judge will lower the fine by court cost, so you're no worse off. I've seen them decrease the number of points, give
Probation Before Judgment, and throw the case out if the officer isn't there on the first appearance. Granted, if you reschedule your court date, the officer is allowed to miss.
